I think people throw the term "evil" around very haphazardly today. (I've heard a lot of teenagers/young adults using the word) Seems like anyone who doesn't do what they want or who they think is 'mean' is labeled "evil". So, I think we need to be careful whom and what we label that way.
I thought M. Scott Peck did a pretty good job of describing evil in his book People of the Lie. There are different types of it, too--serial killers/murderers are probably the most well-known, but there are people in our everyday lives who practice it as well, usually by trying to make those close to them feel horrible. It's the extreme emotional and verbal abuse, deliberately designed to wound and annihilate the soul.

This becomes habit as they develop, and soon the world is to blame for all their problems all the time, and soon they feel the world owe's them something, which only further helps them excuse any guilt for any wretched thing they might do.
They are usually capable of mouthing the words of humility, but they can never truly be humble. If you ever want to flush out an evil person, just blame them for something or find fault with their character (but it must be something real--deep down they really know). No one likes this, of course, but the evil person will have the strongest reaction--it springs the devil of denial into action. And if you press the blame, they will usually get defensive and even hot-tempered, as the one thing they cannot stand is the light of truth. Pardon my lack of tact, but were you POOK?
