What is evil ... In your opinion what makes a place, person or an act evil?
Is there even such a thing as an evil place? [This message was edited Sun Sep 7 9:37:23 PDT 2003 by crazyhorse]

All people have evil or sick thoughts inside themselves. What makes one differ from the other is the "normal" person can experience some disturbing thought, then quickly turn it off.Where that is not possible for someone"evil",they tend to dwell on it,process it and eventually act upon it...

Really evil people aren't even remotely aware that they are evil. Part of being evil is being in denial, avoiding reality, and never wanting to know such things, which is why their behavior soon turns awful--because there's no check against it. In this way, evasion is the root of all evil. Fear is the mind-killer.

Hmm, interesting point of view. I wonder if that's what Stevenson was trying 2 explore in The Strange Case of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde. Id have 2 re-read it.

Ever notice when an evil person fucks something up--what do they do first? Unable to self-criticize, they find someone else to blame. This becomes habit as they develop, and soon the world is to blame for all their problems all the time, and soon they feel the world owe's them something, which only further helps them excuse any guilt for any wretched thing they might do.
They are usually capable of mouthing the words of humility, but they can never truly be humble. If you ever want to flush out an evil person, just blame them for something or find fault with their character (but it must be something real--deep down they really know). No one likes this, of course, but the evil person will have the strongest reaction--it springs the devil of denial into action. And if you press the blame, they will usually get defensive and even hot-tempered, as the one thing they cannot stand is the light of truth. Fear is the mind-killer.

So basicaly,a complete lack of apathy for your fellow man?I read this book about Joel Rifkin and the studies he has voluntered for concerning the human brain. How he explained it was alot like any other kind of addict. He was able to go extended periods of time without committing any murders, but sooner or later the need to kill always prevailed. Now if this is true and the brains of these people are indeed different wouldnt that make them sick and not evil?

Possibly. I mean of course, some people just insane. The ones that resort to murder have to be taken out regardless. What's more troublesome is the more common evil, the small and many. Fear is the mind-killer.
