ORG MARDI GRAS stands out above the normal ebb and flow of the org...

.
I see we have a few regulars departing recently...I've also seen a few old faces return from the void (or did they get banned again?). I've seen a few people complain that org isn't what it used to be. This is all normal...the org comes and goes, people come and go. Sometimes it's slow here, sometimes it's hoppin. Even the ongoing feuds are really nothing new...

But I did see something really neat recently--Org Mardi Gras! Now maybe I'm nuts, but that seemed really new to me. I'm pretty sure Ben never imagined when he created the org that it would self-organize like this. Org Mardi Gras was, like all things org, virtual and partially imaginary. But what imagination! More than ever, orgers are skilled at googling and posting pictures to illustrate the shared imagination and fantasy, and there was an overall feeling of "good times" that day. I even did a little mud wrestling.

I consider Org Mardi Gras to be one of the high points in Org History. And that was pretty darn recent...

Now we've got cliques and mafias...these are harmless. They're fun. I'm in one myself! These miniature networks within the big network are just another level of unplanned social organization that continues to amaze me from anthropological perspective. I wonder what's next?

Sure, it's all virtual...but who could predicted this kind of entertainment back in 1995?

EDIT: Special props to Haystack, of course! wink

I agree. It was a great idea and it was awesome to have such large participation in it.

I know for sure i never could have imagined such a thing back on the purble/black days of the old org...

Thanks for wrestling btw. smile

nod I was impressed with the creativity and imagination I saw during Mardi Gras. I couldn't keep up with it all, as per usual, but what I saw was love and fun all the way! I was also able to catch some touching, serious moments.

Nice to see some positive feedback on the org. This place is truly only as good as we allow it to be. Even most of the drama can produce positive results if we allow it. Often when something annoys us it is because we don't like what we see inside ourselves when the situation reflects back.

Thank you for reminding us to look for the good and interesting things that surround us, Teller. hug

I agree...and you know, there have been times, recently, when I've thought about taking a break from this place (like I did in 1999) but, damn it, I'm sticking it out...nothing is ever good all the time...but, it's when it gets better that I'm so glad I stayed smile
