Transcripts of emergency telephone calls made from the World Trade Center on September 11 have been published by New York's Port Authority.
The decision to release the transcripts has been met with mixed reactions from relatives of victims who died when the building was destroyed in the terrorist attacks.
To some extent, new transcripts and source material may shed light on what went wrong regards intelligence on terrorists and give a clearet indication as to what happened for example.
Yet for other victims only serve to open up old wounds for those who are trying to forget the past.

I think it's disgusting.

I 2 think that it lacks compassion. Surely relations and friends of victims surely should have had the final word in the matter.

Indeed. It shouldn't be of interest for public consumption. We can't change the past. All we can do is learn from it.

They should be accessible to relatives and relatives alone, and they should decide weather to release them to the public or not. Any "intelligence" that may be gleaned from the transcripts should be done confidentially (JMHO)..

nope...its in no ones interest. the families should be respected.

I've always been interested to hear what went down that day be it cell phones or black box recorders. I understand the importance of respecting the families so I don't expect to ever hear any of this.

I think that 9/11 was a huge event that we are not able to comprehend easily. Transcripts, for the public, help to add some reality to it. The public needs some information to understand it. Otherwise, ignorance will only leave the public with fear and hatred.

However, the relatives wishes should be met. They should be required to give their blessings, or in the least the transcripts should be made anonymous.

As for being morbid, stuff that. This war, whichever side you are on, is a morbid thing. Real people are dying and being killed on whatever side. And it isn't pretty. It is bloody and painful. It may be a shock to Americans on their own soil but this is what reality is like in so many countries. Pretending it isn't real isn't going to help anybody.

U know what will eventually happen - some publisher will pick up the rights 2 them, and have a 'best seller' on their hands. Oh - but let's not 4get that 'all profits from the sale of this book will go 2 blah blah blah...'

i was at BEST BUY not long after 9-11...like within 2 weeks...i was horrified to see that they had a video up of the day 9-11

it was all about the towers falling...and the people in the streets running...

i think that is possibly the sickest thing i have ever seen...made me physically ill to see that they were selling someone elses misery

i left without buying anything that day...

it was a small gesture...but from me it meant that i thought the shit was totally not right...and i wont support them being like that.
