Marciano also holds the distinction of being the only heavyweight champion to ever retire undefeated... that is pretty cool.

George Foreman still has the highest knockout ratio of any heavyweight champion... if I recall correctly. Think of what he could have done if he hadn't retired at the peak of his career!

yes true ..

i also agree with you about julio cesar chavez
he is a legend winning six world titles at three different weights

Chavez was THE man in his day... nobody could touch him. I was at the AlamoDome for his fight against Pernell Whitaker and I think that Whitaker won that fight... but that is neither here nor there... Frankie Randall also beat him, but Chavez is still one of the greats in my mind.

BTW, he is fighting an exhibition match against Hector Camacho soon...

---
Julio Cesar Chavez to return!
By Lisa Scott
Three time world champ and Mexican icon, Julio Cesar Chavez will return to the ring in an exhibition bout against Hector 'Macho' Camacho in November. Rodolfo Chavez Gonzalez, the older brother and promoter of Chavez, told Mexican reporters that he has informed Jose Sulaiman of the match up, which will be staged in Mexico. Gonzalez has also stated that the 41 year old Chavez is doing the exhibition for his fans and that he will begin training for this fight at the famed Otomi gym in Mexico City, (training grounds of WBC featherweight champ Erik 'El Terrible' Morrales). Also featured on the card will be the pro debut of Chavez's son Julio Cesar Chavez Carrasco. In 2001, Chavez retired with a ring record of (104-5-2; 85 KO's) while Camacho (76-5-2; 37 KO's) continues to fight at age 41.

i dig camacho and the fight should be very interesting, but fighters have got to learn when
to stop fighting and enjoy their lives

By the way, I know I will catch some shit for this, but I think that Hector Camacho was a VERY good boxer. :ducking:

i hear ya lol
i dont know why there is so much hate directed
at hector macho camacho, his style, much like ali's
is copied by boxers like jones and naseem hamed.

the man deserves more credit, although i didnt dig that
whole captain america thing when he fought chavez
and to be honest, even though he got his ass kicked that night
he did answer chavez back blow for blow

OK OK, since we're fessing up here, I liked Camacho as a fighter. Back in '85, I liked him, Chavez and Edwin Rosario.
My girlfriend at the time thought he was cute so I hated him after that though. Damn pretty boy. smile

Yep... you are on point again. I really hated his costumes as a rule, but I did think that he was a very underrated boxer. Chavez said that he did not want to knock him out and that he wanted to drag the fight out to punish him... he did just that, but Camacho kept fighting.

No need to duck, man!! I agree 100%!!!

People don't realize how good a boxer he was. He was even a semi-agressive fighter before that fight with Edwin Rosario. But, we all know what happened after absorbing some of those huge bombs in that fight...he became a "runner".

BTW...That was a pretty good list, but here's my top ten:

10)Tommy Hearns
9) Evander Holyfield
8) Azumah Nelson
7) Marvin Hagler
6) Joe Louis
5) Sugar Ray Leonard
4) Pernell Whitaker
3) Sugar Ray Robinson
2) Roy Jones Jr.
1) "The Greatest" Ali

That's a damned fine list too! biggrin

How I forgot about "The Professor" is a mystery to me... I saw him fight live a few times... he was a great fighter.

I think that Whitaker was a great fighter too... he isn't on my list, but he probably should be.

I cannot believe that I forgot about Joe Louis... that was a travesty!

Hagler and Tyson are my all time favorites. It's hard to compare boxers from different generations. I think Mike is underrated at this point. Sure, he's not the guy he was before he went to jail, but there are still very few boxers that can actually beat him. Not bad for a guy at his age.

But looking at the thread it took some time before someone actually mentioned Hagler. Sad...

I feel you, maaannn!!! There are so many great fighters to choose from. I can name a few that I couldn't fit on my list...

-Carlos Monzon
-Rocky Marciano
-Aaron Pryor
-JC Chavez
-Salvador Sanchez
-Larry Holmes
-Bob Foster

These are just a few off the top of my head. Being an avid boxing fan, there's nothing better then seeing greatness in the ring (either on tape, or otherwise). Narrowing a list down to 10 is next to impossible.

There have been so many great fighters!

Like I was telling IceNine, it's very hard to compile a list that reflects each person tastes. Some may like the boxer/puncher...some may like the brawling style...some may like the pretty footwork and ring generalship...to each their own.

To respond to you though...yes, in my opinion...Hagler was damn GREAT!! Dominated the Middleweight division for years. He did lose to Leonard though...smile But, it was close. smile

yes i agree, there are many factors one can take into consideration
and it is mad difficult to really make a list of only top ten fighters

although i do like your top ten list bro.

ali has always been my hero, from day one, but

i have always related to the style of

sugar ray robinson

for me he is the ultimate fighter there ever has been
