I've also read an article in Newsweek stating that the Chinese are having problems as well and while other countries have to deal with this problem, America unfortunately still leads the rest with a higher percentage of obesity among it's population. I had no idea it was this much of a problem in other countries. disbelief

I agree, no one is forcing anybody. It's the free world where people can choose. And look, a majority goes off eating fast food, getting fat, beeing a burden on themselves and on society. Quite a result.

Since you're interested in Capitalism so much, you should read Neo-Tech philosophy, which puts Capitalism and Competitive Values at the level of God.

Go to www.neo-tech.com for more info.

By the way, the University of Ohio just published the results of 30 years of research--money does NOT buy happiness. In fact, rich people were more UNHAPPY because it seems that once you have money, you have to work twice as hard to KEEP that money.

And since you post indicates that you no longer HAVE that cool million $, I think that speaks volumes...

Say, what was your take on the film "Startup.com?"

Neo-tech! I'm an Objectivist, and those guys are the rejects from Objectivism. Psycho. But it's neat that you've heard of them. I'm impressed.

Teller, we disagree on the Capitalism Vs. Socialism bit, but that's OK. I like your positive attitude in regards to facing your business failure and intending to being successful in the future. I dislike Capitalism because it seems to be a form of Economic Fundamentalism. People will die and kill over money just as they die and kill over religion. My Dad was a rich business owner at one time--we had a Jaguar, owned our home in full, even had a pool installed. But that money went up in a cloud of smoke caused by the fires of recession and economic fallout. There's NOTHING wrong with having money, but the people who have money seem to forget what it was like to struggle and do nothing to improve the world and TRY AND IMPROVE 'THE SYSTEM.'

Actually, I'm equally impressed that YOU know Neo-Tech. But how are they Objectivist rejects??

Neo-tech is just fuckin' strange. Objectivism is based on reason, not religion. Neo-tech reads like a sales-pitch...nothing but bizarre promises and no real focus on the details of important philosophy for life on earth.

Omigod, that's SOOO true! I have TWO Neo-Tech books: The Neo-Tech Discovery and Zonpower. But the books don't really tell you HOW to EXECUTE the points in the books. I actually agree with some of the points made, but the books are not very user-friendly. Another philosophy that I dislike is L.Ron Hubbard's Dianetics. I read most of the book and it strikes me as being Christian Science minus the Christianity. I'm the K-mart shopper of religion and philosophy. I've looked at 'em all, but until one really grabs me, I'll stick with good, old fashioned Nihilism.

What the hell? confuse rolleyes

Although I know that this subect may be a source of humor for some, I never meant it to be. I see it more as a health issue and was caught off guard in my assumption that the issue of obesity was less of a problem in countries I thought were more moderate in their dietary habits.
I know this is a sensitive topic for many folks but that doesn't mean that it shouldn't or can't be reasonably discussed.

But thanks to Capitalism we have a social system called The Class System. You got Poor, Rich and there is the myth of the Middle Class. That wealth that you speak of would ONLY go to the rich. Why? Because our social structure RELIES on the POOR to do the Shit-Work!! When was the last time the CEO of Colgate/Palmolive washed some dishes? And don't worry--that "government regulation" that you speak does NOT GIVE A FUCK about the poor and working class. So sit back, spark your Cuban cigar and be happy. You managed to succeed in the Capitalism Game. But be careful--those economic forces that you pray to are jealous Gods. And when they smite you...you're sure to feel it.

The CEO for Colgate/Polmolive doesnt have to wash dishes because he most likely has a doctorate or a masters degree or at least has a large working knowledge about running his/her company.
Money is earned. In order to earn good money you need one of three things. 1. Good work ethic and experience. 2. Education or 3. An in demand skill or trade.

if you do not have one of those three things, you will be washing dishes.

i dont see many people with masters degrees washing dishes do you?

as for fat people. they are a product of their own lack of personal responsibility. some are medically obese, that is a problem. but most are obese because of their own poor choices.
it all comes down to personal responsibility and accountability. i know those two values have deminished to almost nothing thanks to liberalism, but that is still no excuse for allowing yourself to become a fatass and blaiming somebody else.

i blame myself for my fat ass. i dont exercise enough and damn those Peroggies were great tonight with cheese and sour cream!

OK...to all you idiots who are thinking it's easy to lose weight, I have one thing to say to you...

PISS OFF!!!

Listen, losing weight is VERY VERY hard while unfortunately gaining it is VERY VERY easy. We live in a world of fast food, 7-11s and where Food Additives are almost a food group unto themselves.

I'm skinny as hell but I know so many wonderful people who are overweight who are constantly frowned upon. Do you think anyone who's overweight WANTED to get that way???!?!? Don't you think that they've tried exercising, crash diets and even starvation. Fuck, I've dated two women who had eating disorders because of our society's OBSESSION with skinny women.

We are busier now than any time in history and due to this social change, fast food restaurants are among the most successful businesses out there. Who the fuck has time to cook?!! Who the fuck has time--or money--to join a fucking Gold's Gym while taking care of the kids AND trying to make ends meet?

Wanna know where the obesity epidemic came from? Capitalism.
Read the book "Fast Food Nation" if you don't believe me. You really are what you eat, people. Obese people are PEOPLE. NONE of them MEANT to get that way. Do you know what it's like to have to deal with the jeers, the embarrassing trips to the plus size stores and the feeling that everyone is staring at you?

And to those men who have a "thing" for the skinny, blonde women in Maxim and who still thinks that one day he'll find his living Barbie doll...FUCK YOU.

Muffy

Every Day on T.V. all we see is Commercials for Food. Children's lunches are full of Fat and Sugar. The world Condems Fat people as Lazy,Horrible maybe even Dispicable people. Listen, it's Hard to Change Bones from the body. I have Anorexia. I ALWAYS FEEL FAT. I actually was throwing a Crying Fit in a bathroom at a major Dept store and the cops were called cause I was Hysterical. Why? Because they didn't have my size which is 2 in the Jeans I wanted. So listen I do Feel for Overweight people. Going to the Gym may be Embarassing or a Drag but you know what I say? Just get a Stationary Bike at home and start drinking Lots of Water. Ever go out to Eat? Ever Notice the portion Sizes? They make the Portion size Large Basically for Anyone's Appetite. So if you are thin or if you are Large well you can eat what you Want. I think our Main Problem in this World is Control and How we are conditioned to Eat. People are Starving in Ethiopia,India so don't Waste. Well, do we then feel Compelled and Gluttonous to Always Finish Every last Morsal of Food from our Dishes? And what about SUPER SIZES or ALL YOU CAN EAT BUFFETS. AREn't they Grand? We can PIG-OUT to our HEARTS CONTENT. Yes, it's an International Problem. Listen I went to a Designer store where size 2 is Fat. All that was there was 0 and 1. Models are stick like with no Boobs basically. Nowadays more are getting Shapelier but runway they are Reed-Thin. I rip my underwear on the hip and rear waistband always. This used to be a joke my boyfriends used to call me big Ass. Listen, if ya have the money just get Liposuction or Abdominal Surgery if you want the EASY WAY Out to Thinness. It works and it's Great. I've had it done 3x already and I'd tell anybody to do it. It's amazing and there are no Visible Scars. You would be Amazed at the RESULTS!

The Diet Cure is also a really good book to read. www.dietcure.com It's mainly a nutrition book, and it talks about the American Diet and how it's loaded with fats and carbs and sugars which are extremely detrimental to our brain chemistry. Of course there is the weight issue as well.

As far as personal responsibility, I understand that point. However after reading this book and seeing how parents take their children to McDonalds without really thinking about what that does to their bodies... disbelief
Then I go to work and see teenagers get on the bus with sodas and slurpees at 8am and I cringe. I'm not blaming anyone for my health issues, BUT when parents start their kids early with bad habits you can't say it's just a personal responsibility and will power thing.

This isn't just a weight issue. It's brain chemistry as well. Carbs and sugars are addicting. People use them to cope with their lives, seriously. It sounds silly, but when I reduced my sugar and carb intake I felt much better and more alive. When I got back into bad habbits I felt like SHIT. And when you don't have as much carbs and sugars for a while and then just have a little bit again you'll notice your body freaking out. Heart beat acceleration, jittery, mood swings, headaches, and it's an endless cycle that you need more carbs and sugars to deal with. Same goes for caffeine.
