So wait...we CANT say goodbye? I mean...Im not leaving the org, but I was just sitting here thinking, if I did, would I be ridiculed for posting a thread to say see ya later? Ive been seeing alot of this lately from orgers.
Whats wrong with wanting to do that and why is it frowned upon so much? It sure does seem like that to me! I mean, sure no one really stays away but isnt it better 2 say instead of just completely disappearing in thin air? :I: &

an inconspicuous departure is whats required...
for example, edit your profile to read "X is dead" and provide locations of a cemetary plot. Alternatively, deactivate your account and when people start wondering why they cant send u org-notes, some one is bound to post a thread asking where is "X"? ...a lot more mysterious shit i need to stop smoking [This message was edited Sat Aug 23 9:27:37 PDT 2003 by Ardeo]

In other words, sometimes people say goodbye with the threads and get their friends all riled up and sad. But then they come back a week or two later (after they find out they're unable to stay away) and act like nothing happened.

THEN, whenever someone says anything about missin you they'll get together with the rest of their pony show and say "GET THE FUCK OVER IT!!! GOOD RIDENCE." and if enough people bbump the "I MISS YOU" thread it'll get deleted when your friends blast on said certain people. SO, in answer to your you question. There's a good reason why the "I'm leaving / Goodbye" kind of threads are frowned upon here.
People who really want to leave the site will just leave. They'll orgnote or email their friends before they go, to let them know. No fuss, no drama, no silliness. On the other hand, people who create threads saying "I'm leaving!" are usually just looking for a bit of attention, and it is rather irritating for everyone else. In all the history of the Org, the number of people who made a fuss about leaving the site and actually left is zero. Sometimes these threads are a result of someone having a bit of a hissy fit and throwing their toys out of the sandpit. Sometimes it's just a routine attention-seeking tactic. Sometimes there are more belligerent motivations. Either way, we generally frown upon threads of this kind. The author rarely has any real intention of leaving the site. Sometimes they'll curse the people, curse the site and say its shit, curse the Org staff, and vow to never return, and literally a day later I spot em creating a new username However, when the author of the thread isn't just shit-stirring and has a genuine reason to say goodbye temporarily - e.g. "I'm going on holiday, see y'all in a month" or "I'm moving and will be offline for a while" that is absolutely fine. When Teller was moving house, people were interested to hear that he wasn't gonna be around. When Gooey changed his job, people were interested to hear that he'd be offline for a bit. There's no problem with those type of threads. It's the "I hate this site and I'm leaving!!" threads that we tend to remove. Ian

Cherrie, you asked for that! Whats even funnier is how you misunderstood what I wrote and what TEACHER wrote...if you look at the first line of what I said, its clearly says "I mean, Im NOT leaving the Org" 2 many pix of shoes and not enough words for you Red &
