How do you like my pictures?

http://www.villagephotos....ted=445737
Is there one in particular that you like?
Or maybe you hate them all?
What kind of feeling do you get from them?

Ok, I´m ready to take the criticism now...

Thank you! hug

I´ve just tried to capture shapes and colors that I like. But a couple of them were the result of me trying to take a picture that could be used as a book or cd cover. Not too sure exactly which book or cd though...

Thank you very much! I feel extra honoured that you picked the one that I feel is my personal "symbol". I put three glass pyramids on a table, then placed a window glass on top of them. Then I sprayed some water on it, added the glass sphere and switched on a strong lamp aimed at the whole thing from one side. It worked quite well since everything was placed on a black piece of cloth.

Thanks!

Unfortunately I haven´t got any city pics at all, since city pics (and especially the "city lights" kind of pics) remind me too much of cheesy eighties posters.

The closest thing I´ve got to an urban Stockholm pic is this one of an old friend climbing a crane in Södermalm:

...and I know that wasn´t exactly what you were hoping for. Sorry!

They are all photographs? I thought you might have added some graphics, (the second picture for instance, ) with Photoshop or some other graphics software.

Nope, they´re all photographs. Scanned directly from the paper copy. I don´t really like manipulated pictures. They lose the special "feeling" they once might have had.

If you´re talking about the one with the monkey, then I can reveal that it is upside down. The monkey is one of those slimy things you throw at a window and that "crawl down" if you know what I mean, and it is hanging from its "rope". In the background there´s a decoration star that I picked from the wall at a nightclub and behind that there´s a giant porcelain strawberry I found in my grandma´s attic...

That IS the problem with his posts isn't it? I think he was honest though, he's usually much more eloquent when he's sarcastic lol

Those are wonderful abstractions!

Here in America, for some oddball reason our standard print sizes are different proportions than 35mm negatives. So what you get back from the lab is never entirely what you composed, lol.

Are you shooting digitally? Or do you print your own images? Just wondering because some of those images may look really cool printed as a combined negative (place both negatives in the enlarger at the same time), or you can do the same thing in photoshop easily.

Thank you!!!

I remember wishing I had had a video camera with me when I took the picture of the bicycles. It was snowing huge snowflakes that came far apart and that peacefully and surprisingly slowly fell to the ground like unearthly white parachutists. It was one of those serene moments you wish you could go back to. Anyway, I was pleased to find the bicycles. They captured the moment quite well, especially since they showed typical city objects in a rare moment of deep rest.

It makes me very happy that you like the grave too! Most people don´t understand that one (some don´t even notice the grave at all). It is actually a very good example of how sometimes the photographer´s only contribution to the picture is that he or she has noticed the motif. I really didn´t add anything to this. I didn´t even adjust the camera´s settings. That place just spoke to me on many levels, so I aimed the camera and took the picture. All credit goes to mother nature on this one.

Thank you for your compliment and for showing interest!

I´m shooting on regular 35mm film. The prints are made by a good lab where they know how to transfer the image from negative to paper without deviations. I wish I had access to (and competence for working with) a color picture lab, but as it is I´m quite pleased with the results anyway.

The prints I get are 10 by 15 centimeters. I´m not sure how to translate that to inches, but as you can see the length is the width X 1,5 so that´s at least close to being the whole negative. I never heard the things you said about American prints before. I wonder why it´s like that? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that cameras used to produce pictures where all sides had equal length a few decades ago. Maybe that standard still lives on to some degree in the American labs?

As far as manipulating the pictures is concerned I´m not so keen on that. I can really appreciate that kind of pictures when I see them, but usually I like to keep my own pictures "clean". You´re welcome to try though with the pics I posted. It would be interesting to see the result. Anyway, thanks again for your comments!
