Book tip, for open-minded adults who like fantasy/fairytales or parents of kids above the age of 8. Neil Gaiman, writer of fantastic graphic novels "Sandman" as well as well-known and praised novelist, has written a fairytale called Coraline. I just finished reading it, and it's definitely worth reading both for adults and children who like fantasy other than Disney. As always Mr. Gaiman creates a vivid world that is easy to imagine in your mind's eye theatre, and he also makes you identify with the main character, as usual. I highly recommend it, I will not ruin the story for you by telling the outline here, but orgnote me and I will tell you
Enjoy your reading | |

Yeah, I read this book when it came out about a year ago, and I loved it. Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite authors. He is amazing in both the comic realm and in novels, his characters are always quite complex and well done, and I am always incredibally immersed into his worlds. What did you think of American Gods? That is my favorite book of his, although Neverwhere is pretty close. I hope that his movies come out well, he has held them off for quite awhile, but now has several projects going. The sequel (Kind of) to Labrynth, Death, The High Cost of Living, and others, including a Sandman movie which he says he will not be involved in and will be horrible. A action movie about the Sandman and his twin brother the Corinthian. Sad.

Oh, and like my avatar? I saw your avvie earlier, yes. I read all the Sandman graphic novels before. I prefer Neverwhere to American Gods, but then I adore London and detest America in general. Was supposed to go to to Lookout Mountain when I was in the US but never got around to it. Stardust is also very good, as well as Smoke and mirrors. My favourite story there is "Nicholas was...", I used to read it aloud to somebody I cared about. Mr. Gaiman is definitely one of my favourite writers.

I wasn;t the biggest fan of Stardust but yes, Smoke and Mirrors was quite great. I believe I heard something about a movie about a short story or two from that book. I believe it was Chivalry and Murder Mysteries. Oh, and Coroline is being made into a movie too, but then again, so is Neverwhere and Good Omens, but they have been saying that for years Sign 78 that you're obsessed with Prince: You buy a John Prine album- just out of curiosity.

Coraline would make a good animated movie IMO Please never make a movie out of Neverwhere, that's all I have to say I like Stardust cos I like fairytales.

Thankfully no, even though the BBC most often does moderately well. I think I'll pass.

I heard it was pretty good, at least from Gaimans stand point. He got a little upset with the visual effects though... if Neverwhere IS made, it wil be better, as it is being made by Henson's company. But now Niel is fed up with it and the director won't be him, and the script will be altered quite a bit. Boo.
Oh, I thought you might like this if you haven't seen it already. It is Gaimans journal, which he updates fairly often. http://www.neilgaiman.com...ournal.asp Sign 78 that you're obsessed with Prince: You buy a John Prine album- just out of curiosity.

I don't check it too much myself either, but it is nice to check everyone in awhile. It is cool to know that he keeps his readers quite informed! Sign 78 that you're obsessed with Prince: You buy a John Prine album- just out of curiosity.

"Coraline" was great! I love Neil Gaiman.
My favorite stories from "Smoke And Mirrors" were "Bay Wolf"(because I love Beowulf and it was cool to see how he treated it)and the one where the cat fights the devil on a nightly basis and the holy grail story. A book somewhat like "Coraline" and I thought was pretty good was "The Thief Of Always" by Clive Barker. When I saw your subject, for a minute I was worried you were going to suggest "Harry Potter"!
