iv'e never swore at my son, over the years ive learned to censor myself, but hes really never gave me a reason to scream on him except once... but i didnt scream at him or hit him,i called his mama. and said "come git ya boy" smile

falloff

See, that's the luxury that fathers have. I wish I could tell my kids to call their daddy when they start begging and acting up. Actually I do, but they just look at me like whofarted

in the right stuation and time the phrase F$^king C*%t is so empowering...not necessarily in anger...but never to kids disbelief

i been on buses and parents talking to their kids f'ing and blinding makes me feel sick. it show lack of language skills and intellect. very lazy. and i don't mean to sound like a snob here.

I have to humbly disagree. It's usually due more out of frustration. Like I said, kids can get on your nerves. And after working all day, coming home to your kids fighting over one looking at the other one the wrong way can make you curse. Or mabye it't just me.
No. It's not just you. My kids do the same and there's a huge age difference between them. Don't get me wrong. My kids are great, straight A students. I never have to lay a finger on them, but, if I say in a calm voice: Pick up your clothes and again pick up your clothes, the third time it becomes PICK UP YOUR CLOTHES. The last time it becomes PICK UP YOUR DAMN CLOTHES. Most of the time it doesn't get that far because they're afraid of me.

DudeDrops

I grew up with my parents swearing at me ALL THE TIME. Sometimes I can hear their words playing in my head as if they were soundbites...

"These kids are assholes."
"You little shit"
"You're a shithead"

Parents, those WORDS COUNT. I'm a 27-year-old man and they still haunt me.

Don't SWEAR AT your kids. Swearing AROUND them is sorta acceptable (I have a potty-mouth) but NEVER EVER EVER use profanity TOWARDS them.

Children are God's Blessing anyone who abuses them in any way be Penalized. I love kids and I get Appalled at all these fools for parents who couldn't raise a flower let alone a Child. There outta be a law that says EVEN IF YOU CAN HAVE A CHILD DON"T IF YOU CAN'T BE A GOOD ONE! Big Freakin Deal you have a child but Abuse it. To me there should be strickter laws regarding this.

rolleyes Laws such as?...And just what is considered abuse? Let me see, the last time that I remember cursing at my kids was because they let one of the contractors working on my house inside to use the bathroom when I wasn't home. I have a very strict rule...no one is to enter my home when I am not there. My kids are almost 14 so they KNOW this. They let a contractor, who was contracted out by my general contractor, who they had never seen before and who I didn't even know was there, into the house. The only reason that they called me at work, which was after the fact, was becaus they got mad because he took a dump. What did I say to them when they called..."You let an unknown person into the house with no adult there? What did you do some STUPID SHIT like that for? I could have come home and found you both slaughtered? You didn't know that man from Adam. He could have killed you both. Don't EVER let someone in the house when I am not at home. You both know this?" Now if that's abuse, then I'm guilty. I guess some parents would have given them a time out.rolleyes

I think it's phucked up for a parent to swear at their children. I really hate the ones who only do it in private because they know they are wrong and try to give the "good parent" image.

I have been known to swear in front of my children, have been
known to jokingly say you "lil shit" when
they are trying to be sneaky or say something smart and have even been known
to throw in a curse when I have finally had it with 'em.
I am such a BAD mother!! Give me a break! As I tell them...
There are things you are allowed to say when you are
an adult and things you CANT say when you are a child.
That is the joy of being grown!!!

I think there are two different understandings of the concept "people who swear at their children". I think what Bliss is talking about are people who call their children names like "fucker", "fuckhead", "shithead", "asshole", etc. NOT parents who use those words around them.

Am I right, Bliss?

it's why i said at... to me, it doesn't even have to be name calling though... when it's used in any aggressive way to correct etc it a) is abusive ...and b) shows that the parent isn't in control
