TOP 10 RECORD PRODUCERS...other than Prince... Here's my list in random order:
Norman Whitfield--what a dude!! Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis--CONSISTENCY! Quincy Jones--the god of 'em all, they should change the name from "Grammy" to a "Quincy" ("And the winner of the Quincy is...") Hal Davis--became the main producer of the J5 after he produced "I'll Be There" Arif Mardin--classy. George Martin--he's George, nuff said. Full Force--being typecast as a bunch of muscle-bound, jheri curl wearin thugs hindered their career...still haven't got their props for being the first hip-hop band and the TRUE creators of New Jack Swing (melodious pop and r&b over stomping hip-hop tracks) Dr. Dre--the only rap music producer worthy enough to be on this list. Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff--T.S.O.P. in the house! Roger Troutman--the last branch on the "funk" family tree, R.I.P. I miss you! | |

Despite my issue with your leaving out Bob Thiele and Gil Evans, among other great jazz producers, I would recommend this for the Non-Prince forum. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

(In no particular order):
1.Jeff Lynne 2.Quincy Jones 3.Jimmy Page 4.Frank Zappa 5.Phil Spector 6.Hawksley Workman 7.Bela Fleck 8.Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis Those are the only 8 I can recall that really stand out to me as fantastic. Producers that are remembered are usually remembered for producing hits, and I don't like most hits. "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Yeah, a fellow canuck he is. Only 3 albums so far, one a Christmas album, but already quite a following. The words on his CDs: Produced, Arranged and Performed By Hawksley Workman should indicate to Prince fans the type of person he is. Very eccentric, very weird, great sound. Young guy. Full of potential. "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Better by far to embrace the hard truth than a reassuring faith. Mike E. Clark.
you will laugh when i tell you this, but he was the producer of Insane Clown Posse's earlier stuff. The guy was amazing. Once he left, they went down the shitter. "I'm here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I'm all out of bubblegum"
