Hey all...what do you think about this...it happened a few months ago, but I'm trying to decide whether to go back to this doctor or not...

I had a first physical with my sister's doctor (he has a headache specialist working in his office that I wanted to see for my migranes...she's really helped my sister) and he said he needed a baseline physical. No problem. So, I get into the office and I tell him that I have my own gynecologist so I won't be needing a pelvic exam or any other 'girl' exams done (he asked me) and after taking my blood he tells me to take off all my clothes (including my bra) and put on a paper gown with the front open. I asked him why and he said 'havent you ever had a physical before?' and I said 'yes, of course, but I've never had to take off all my clothes for one.' I told him that I would not take off my bra. The nurse came in to do an EKG on me and she said something about wondering why the doctor had me take off my clothes for an EKG and gave me a paper sheet to cover up with.
I noticed that when he came back in he was looking at my breasts while he was talking to me.
I talked to my sister about this and she said that he does the same thing to her and she didn't think it was a big deal. (But then she also said that she's flat-chested and it could be different for her... )
On the other hand, my other sisters and mother think that he's a big pervert...I know I didn't feel very comfortable with what he was doing, but I don't know if I feel comfortable labeling him as a pervert either.
I am benefiting from the treatment I'm getting from the headache specialist, but don't really want to keep seeing that doctor.
Any opinions?

maybe you should give him the benfit of the doubt. i dunno...its can't be easy NOT to look at a womens breast.

but your comfort in the most important. change doctor if this is the case.

Is it possible to see the specialist outside of that office? I certainly feel you have enough to make the choice you don't want to see him! Often doctors work in multiple settings. See if there is a way to see her in different surroundings!

My joking answer -> If ever in that situation again, do what my friend does. When he is staring at your breasts, say 'Oi...' and wave your forefinger across your eyes to indicate that he look there and not at your chest.

My serious answer -> How much has this impacted on you? Perhaps you could request any appointment that involves bearing any flesh with a female doctor and just refuse to take any clothing off in his company. Most of the time, a visit to the doctors doesn't result in clothes being removed.

I remember going to my doctor's a couple of years ago and he was absent on the day that I went so I had to see one of the nurses instead or else it would mean having to cancell my appointment. While there she asked me to strip down to just my underpants and asked me to get on the scales, I'm like , but I did it anyway. She told me that I was about two stone underweight for my height and that I had a nice bum!!! When I next saw my doctor I told him about what the nurse had asked me to do and that I'd never been told to get on the scales before and he just laughed and said "She's always doing that". Maybe it's just a pervo profession.

Actually, I'm on the phone with the office now and found out that she is working out of Chicago now, but sees her Michigan patients on Saturdays, so I think I can get away with not seeing 'Dr. Boobie' The challenge will come when it's time for my next physical...I'm pretty sure I can get a physical somewhere else and take the results to the specialist.

That's why I feel so weird about this...I've had many physicals and never had to strip down to my panties and take off my bra.
Also, when he was looking in my ears he was rubbing my back...which could have been just a nice gesture, but combined with the boobie-looking and having me take off my clothes, it just didn't feel right.

In my opinion, the biggest clue that he's not being a terrific doctor is his request for the EKG. Why? During a routine evaluation of a 32 year old woman without heart complaints, there is really no reason to obtain an EKG. It was probably an unnecessary test. As far as the nurse telling you that an EKG can be performed while wearing a bra, I'd have to say sure, but more often than not the leads will be misplaced and the net result is a lousy tracing - so why bother?

As far as the stripping part, I'd have to say that it sounds a little fishy. Yet it's really sad that we've developed such body taboos that a physician has to worry about these sorts of perceptions when attempting to perform a physical examination. Frankly, the only real way to examine a person is by inspecting (looking), palpating (touching), and listening (before the stethoscope, doctors would put their ear to your chest) to each area of being examined. Frankly, it's all in the way that he/she conducts the exam while disrobed. This guy needs to have a female nurse in the room during his "exams," and he needs to learn basic eye-contact skills until it's time to look elsewhere!

I had a doctor who during an exam shoved 2 of his fingers up my bum! He had them up there for a little to long Talk about uncomfortable! I think he was a perv. After that I started going to a female doctor, I figured if she's going to pull some shit like that and enjoy it that situtation would have alot more potential in becoming something that i might enter in my journal. I lucked out too, my doctor is a honey! She told me that males didn't need to have that prostate exam until they reached 30. After she told me that I really wondered about last doctor's intentions.

Hmmm. Call the College of Physicians or the governing body that he would have to report to and file a complaint. I would not have taken my clothes off for him. And staring at your breasts! Report this man immediately for yours and others sake please.
