Should we hunt whales?

All three boats commissioned by Iceland's government to resume whaling after 14 years have left port.
The vessels are on a six-week mission to kill 38 minke whales - a mission Iceland insists is for scientific purposes, to protect its fish stocks.

It says whales have become so abundant since a worldwide moratorium on commercial whaling that they are threatening stocks of fish, including cod.

But the decision was attacked by the UK and US Governments, as well as animal welfare groups.

Is hunting whales justified? Should Iceland be punished by the international community?

I think all animals should be destroyed and replaced with robots, and all children should be forced to live in cages until they're old enough to join the military.

Seeing whales being slaughtered on TV and turning the sea red with their blood is what pushed me into vegetarianism.

I don't believe in culling. But then I don't believe in the whole meat industry.

As much as I agree that I find whale culling disgusting and barbaric, I cant resist the taste of meat. I feel kinda ashamed.

Nah, there's no excuse for that kind of thing. It brings shame on Iceland. I think I'll boycott all their produce except Bjork, Mum and Sigur Ros.

I know, but I eat other animals which I assume have been killed in similar barbaric conditions.
