First off I wouldn't rush the storyline in the beginning. I'd start it slow with visual storytelling, no narration from Freddy. There would be no pre-Freddy burning footage. If people don't know Freddy's history, fuck em. Let them rent the videos and catch up. A little history would be added but through research later in the film. Then I'd give a better explanation as to how Freddy found Jason and tapped into his brain. Again, with visuals I'd explain all this.

The shot of the naked bitch in the water and running around the woods...GONE!!! I wouldn't force that cliche in there that way, even if it was just in Jason's dream.

Then I'd develop everyone's characters better instead of just throwing them all together. The kids from the institutions were cool, but I'd make them a bit more fucked up and the break out would be a little more complicated.

The history of Freddy and Jason would be harder to find. The kids, the young cop, and all wouldn't have all the answers to who these guys are and how to fight them. The cop wouldn't just show up just when they needed him.

Freddy wouldn't be cracking jokes at all. He'd be vicious and purely evil, just terrorizing people and murdering them brutally. He'd be in the dark a lot to give a scarier edge. He definitely wouldn't be talking much at all, no looking and talking into the camera that's for sure.

The kids would be genuinely terrified about what's going on. They wouldn't be talking casually and cracking jokes. And no Jay (and Silent Bob) type stoners getting high and bugging out when their lives are in danger.

As far as the fighting part goes, I'd incorporate more psychological attacks by Freddy against Jason. They almost had it, but not quite.

As far as the the technical part goes, I'd hire a different cinematographer. I'd get someone who understands how to make a shot creepy and disturbing without anything even happening yet. There would be more eerie sound effects to make things really tense. And no metal playing as a fight begins. It's not a music video. And certainly no pinball sound effects when Jason is being thrown around.

I'd cut a lot of the special effects down and only use them when necessary. There would be no CGI effects, just pure latex and animatronics. The blood shots would be toned down a bit so they don't get too overused.

And finally I'd get a cast of real actors, like those who actually have talent and range. I'm not talking about $20mil stars, but just more skilled actors.

I'd do a lot more to it, but these would be the first to change.

Thanks for the review, EWM. I'm a HUGE horror fan (esp. of Freddy) but I'll think twice about seeing this film now.

i thought is was Good... i wanted 2 see Jason cut Freddy's mouth off or something but i left out thinking it was well done. can't wait 4 The DVD! xtra footage & backstory would b cool 2 have: The Best Jason in terms of Killing were Jason Lives & Jason Goes 2 Hell!

Robert Englund has already confirmed a sequel to this. And the final shot in the movie also hints at it.

I would love nothing more then to see a whole new Elm Street film but darker and actually scary. And if there's any battle between Freddy and another villain, I'd rather see Freddy vs. Hellraiser. Most of the film would deal with Freddy in hell, loving it but also getting his ass kicked.

I just saw this movie and god did it ever suck. I truly wish with all my heart I could get that last hour and a half of my life back. I was kinda hopeful when reading Cherrie's review but I guess I'm getting a bit old for the obligatory(fake)boobies and the tendency of folks to go toward the fucking danger instead of away from it.

They literally forced every cliche into this movie, with no shame.

I can't stand watching movies in the theatre anymore. People were laughing and talking during the movie. Cheering when somebody gets killed? What the heck is that? Nobody cares about a good scary horror film anymore. Too bad Freddy Vs. Jason wasnt one of them. I guess people just want Bruce Willis and Sandra Bullock movies! The Texas Chainsaw remake actually looks really good. It definitely looks serious and non comical. The trailer by itself is better than Freddy Vs. Jason.

No shit man, that Texas Chainsaw preview was without doubt the most amazing 2 minutes of film that night!!! I saw it on opening night too, and I don't regret it, although yeah, it was totally fucking dumb. Sounds like you would have done a MUCH better job -- I for one would love you to have the chance.

The soundtrack was used so effectively in the Texas Chainsaw preview...with all the door slamming, someone running up stairs, girl crying, heavy breathing, chainsaw roaring sound effects -- my heart was pounding.

Jason looked stupid...he was too big, and what's up with that stupid sprig of hair? And when did he start walking like Frankenstein, except with actual THUDS with every step, like he's fucking Godzilla or something? At least it was opening night, and there was a big crowd, and I found much of it very amusing. I'm not sorry I went either.

I actually think I'm gonna go rent Jason X now...it's the only one I've never seen.
