my cockatiels hatched a baby!!! all these years they've been cultivating nests full of eggs that never hatched. so this spring when they started laying eggs in my shoes i figured it was time to humor them aagin and made them a little nest out of a newspaper tent. . .figuring they'd do what they do every year - lay a few eggs, sit on them for a while then quit.
BUT yesterday as i was reading a book i heard this tiny litle 'cheep' sound coming from there and whattaya know! a teeny tiny baby cockatiel hatched out sometime yesterday morning 
i was worried because the little dude/ette looked unfed and was lying alone in one corner. then i noticed mom was still focused on brooding the unfertile eggs so i took the eggs out, poked the chick under her and waited. when i came home from work dad was gently feeding him/her.
it's been a long time since i've had a baby bird in the house. so sweet. they start out all ungainly, yet graduate to elegance in flight. a miracle really. ooo. i'm a grandma !! ok thanX for listening!@! | |

awww. bubbles. some of the parakeets/cockatiels/ lovebirds who escape in warmer climates actually have survived and gone on to form colonies. maybe bubbles joined one | |
