Question of the Day

I've heard people say 'I would never buy her albums again!', 'I would never watch his films', 'They should burn his books' Becuase they believe this, or did that..etc.

So my question is this..
If you found out that your favourite artist was racist, had killed someone, or had done something completely contradictory to your beliefs; would you continue to purchase their albums, see their movies, buy their books, etc...? hmmm Just curious. smile

yes chico, i would carry on buying their albums...

for example, prince has his head up his ass constantly, the man is a dickhead in my opinion, but he still has the capacity to make great music...i only like his music...as for the man, he can go fuck himself

make sense?

confuse

Yes Ardeo. Sorry my wording was for shit. But I mean something bigger than "he's a dickhead", "she's a slut", or even because they have a different religion.

oK. What if he had; let's say... 'raped a woman' or 'intentionally hurt a child', more of a moral issue. Not sure if I'm making myself clear...too hot, can't think straight!

Example: I have had several people tell me that they would never ever buy anything by Lauryn Hill and got rid of her cds they already had. Due to a comment she had made about 'not making music for white people'. I didn't hear or see the interview myself. Just want to make that clear.

I quit listening to Fishbone after they released two albums in a row with what I considered to be out-and-out homophobic lyrics. "Truth and Soul" used to be one of my favorite albums, but I haven't listened to it in years.

Ok I know I am opening a can of worms but what about R. Kelly??? I know inoocent until proven guilty but I have a 15 year old daughter and my skin crawls when I hear his songs on the radio because of what he is accused of. disbelief I only have one of his songs and that one is on the Space Jam soundtrack.

to have respect for an artist is a great thing...

musically speaking...i have great respect for prince...he has incredible talent...but i would have to agree...his personality is off.

face it...he is strange nod

but that goes back to my original question...isn't someone with above average musical talent usually a bit 'off' upstairs ...i think that allows them to go other places mentally in order to make the music we all love

just my thoughts...tell me if you think i am 'off' upstairs

do you really want someone to tell you if you are 'off' upstairs> lol

as for the question...I won't buy R. Kelly's stuff, I like his music, but the dude has some serious issues about power over women, and girls... If they are some rapist or something along that line, I am not going to buy anything, but I won't necessarily throw out what I have..ala "dixie chick bush bashing"
~don't even start..that was really bad...hehehehhe

i am still struggling with that whole Woody Allen thing (sorry, JD) - i admire his talents, but personally, i believe what he did is tantamount to incest. i still watch his movies sometimes, but i would not consider myself a fan anymore.

on the animal rights front, i do have a problem with celebs (and non-celebs for that matter) who hunt or wear fur. in this day and age, there's just no excuse for that.

just my twocents
