I have to say that I don't love it. 88.5 is a MUCH better station for jazz. 100.5 sort of sounds like 102.9 w/out the words. Don't get me wrong, I like the station for what it is, I just don't really consider it "jazz".

Alright...88.5 is nothing but static here...you don't suppose that maybe stations are different from one town to the next?

I've been discovering that I really like Jazz. Not so much the acid jazz but early Miles (shit, late Miles, all Miles).

I've checked out a ton of different stuff but live Jazz is the real way to experience it.

Live Jazz is the way to go whether it's straight ahead, latin, or whatever. nod Seeing musicians improvise on the spot is amazing.

Yes NovaAngel, I love jazz music. Big fan and student of it. Under my old account, I laid down several jazz threads. But I don't like that smooth jazz stuff though. Once you hear the "REAL THING", that smooth jazz will no longer be of essence to ya'. Here are a few of my VERY favorite jazz records, that I also happen to think are some of the greatest recorded jazz works in the history of the genre...

1. Miles Davis- Miles Davis And The Modern Jazz Giants

2. Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers- Moanin

3. Louis Armstrong- Satchmo At Symphony Hall Vol. 1

4. Jaco Pastorious- Jaco Pastorious

5. Freddie Hubbard- Life Flight

6. Thelonious Monk- Underground

7. John Coltrane- A Love Supreme

8. George Benson- Beyond The Blue Horizon

9. Rachelle Ferrell- First Instrurment

10. Grant Green- Alive!

11 Pat Metheny Group- We Live Here

12. Chick Corea And Return To Forever- Light As A Feather

13. Roland Kirk- The Inflated Tear

14. Herbie Hancock- Thrust

15. George Duke- Brazilian Love Affair

16. Woody Shaw-Rosewood

17. Wynton Marsalis- Hot House Flowers

18. Horace Silver Quintet- The Cape Verdean Blues

19. Sarah Vaughan Trio- Swingin Easy w/ The Sarah Vaughan
Trio

20. Wayne Shorter-Native Dancer

21. Keith Jarrett/Jack DeJohnette/Gary Peacock- Tokyo 96'

22. Echoes Of An Era- Echoes Of An Era

23. Patrice Rushen- Before The Dawn

24. CTI All Stars- California Concert At The Hollywood Palladium 1971

Thanks for this Bro, I'm going to use it as a guide. Herbie Hancock's "Thrust" is a must own for everyone (very funky). I have a live Pat Methany album but it's like the "Smooth Jazz" that you referenced. Whatever.

No problem...Shoot, I like Thrust about as much as Headhunters. I can't even begin to explain how deep off in the funk, Herbie and the fellas fall off into on THRUST. Check out his 60's stuff too like Maiden Voyage. That's classic stuff right there!!!

Pat Metheny Group is my favorite jazz group hands down. Even though you can't really pinpoint them to just jazz,as they play all over the musical map. From 1978 til 2003, they've made ONLY 1 album that didn't knock me out and even that one was good. And to see these guys live in concert is a musical experience to measure the rest of your life against. I wonder what live recording you have of theirs that is SMOOTH?

Just Xpectation and NEWS.

Teller, you strike me as being someone who'd be very receptive to jazz. Slave and BRO had some very good recs, and I picked a few of my faves. Try one or two out. I started with "A Love Supreme," "Kind of Blue" and "Thelonious Monk: Genius of Modern Music Vol. II" about 12 years ago and I haven't looked back since.
