Men I've known have told me that they cheated for 3 reasons:

1.) being drunk, that it didn't mean anything, that it was an "accident"

2.) the opposite, where they started to develop feelings for another woman at work or someplace else where they spent a lot of their time, and began thinking what they're getting at home isn't as good as what they could get from the other woman. Often they don't want to leave their wives or girlfriends, but they want it both ways...

3.) boredom with their partner, wanting variety, thinking there's always something 'better' out there that they could be missing
