Black and white Movies

What is it about black and white movies? What makes them so romantic?I think the black and white adds a little more sophistacation 2 the movie for some reason. I use 2 constanly watch the AMC channel before they changed it, now I like watching the turner classic movie channel (a.k.a TMC) They're like how AMC use 2 be ... Anyways here are a few of my favorite black and white movies..

A raising in the sun
(staring Sidney Poitier)

Whatever happened 2 baby Jane
(staring Betty Davies and Joan Crawford) worship

Rebell without a cause
(staring James Dean) :Worship:

Splendor in the Grass
( I don't care 4 romance flicks but this movie is da bomb)
worship

I think it works because during the time of black and white, directors couldn't rely on snazzy digital effects to replace a script.

Therefore the movies rely on dialogue.

Also, the classic black and white movies are the only ones that we pay attention to today, and they were classic because they were the best. If you looked at all the old movies, you'd see just as many stinkers as today, except the acting would be more hammed up, because traditional actors were transferring there skills from the stage, where one is taught to exaggerate their emotions.

It's the same reason that music from the 60s and 70s seems to be so amazing today. The good music was remembered, the bad ignored, and so today all we hear is an era of amazing music (for the most part), forgetting all the crap that came with it.

I love black and white movies, but I don't think it's the lack of color that adds the sophistication you speak of. I think that back then the actors had to know how to act, there was no distraction of special effects, nudity and lame pervert jokes. The performers back then knew their trade, had an established skill that is sadly lacking from toady's market. Same with screenwriters.

Actually Rebel without a cause was filmed in color and then converted to black and white. Why I don't know. confuse
In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular.
