I hate salons!

Why is it?

1. When i go in and say "i'd just like a little trim" and it turns into a huge haircut!

2. when a stylist schedules an appointment at 12o'clock saturday and don't leave till 9pm sunday.

3. i come in on time and she's doing 2 other people's hair first. what the hell?

4. putting someone's hair under the dryer for an hour 1/2. my hair is fried!

5. getting in the middle of doing my hair only to stop to talk/argue on the phone with her boyfriend.

6. asking for "a chestnut brown" color and ending up with orange

Anxiety

Ask Shoniqua to do you next time - she might have a hook for a hand from a tragic blow-drying accident, but she's still the best in town.

It's never the salon... it's the person. biggrin

Try getting a referral from someone you know, that's a great way of getting inside information about a stylist.

Another way is to go to the salon, and just hang out. Tell them you are looking for a new hair stylist, and just wanted to hang out for a half hour or so, checking them out. Sounds odd, but it's worth it.

Whether dealing with a cut, color, or whatever... remember that most stylists are great at certain services, and not others. So, it pays to know what the stylist specializes in, and if there are services he/she are less apt to do.

Good luck. biggrin

Lavish is right! Also a good thing to do is to go in and get something like an updo or style and say it's for a wedding that you're going to be in or something. This way you can hang out at the salon for a while and experience how your stylist will treat you and your hair will most likely not be damaged!
