The greatest portable gaming system ever!

The GP32

This thing is extremely cool, but you might not want it for its oddball and very Japanese games. What the real cool feature about it is, is the fact that it can play emulators and much much more. Its graphics are higher then the GBAs, so while it might not be able to play XBOX or Playstation, it can play pretty much everything else. With a Smart Media card (basically a small hard drive, thats the best I can explain it as) you can plug it in to your computer and put a whole bunch of games, MP3s, or... movies onto it. With a front light on it, and a relatively cheap pricetag when you consider that fact you wont be buying any games, this little system sure is a nice gadget.

Oh, one more thing... its only available in Korea. neutral Yeah, its not coming here, at least I don't think it is. Although, it can be read in english, and even has a english instuction manual. Just because it is in Korea doesnt mean you cant still get it. I found them at http://www.lik-sang.com/i...t_features for the best price. Check it out!

The GP32 is an interesting system. I met the guy who designed it last year. Nice platform, easy to develop for, cheap and well-specced.

Most of the GP32 games are utter shite though, the GBA is a far better platforms in terms of software. The only reason to get a GP32 is for emulation purposes, but most of the emulators run with framerate problems - you are better off keeping emulation to your PC for now.

It's a pity it is essentially dead, but there is tackling the huge monopoly that Nintendo has with the GBA and GBA SP.

That said, there is the forthcoming Sony PSP system to look forward to. If anyone could do a decent job of marketing a handheld device, it'd be Sony.

So Ian, good timing! What do you think about this? Also, emulators? I would live to take you up on a game of, say, Mario Kart or Donkey Kong Country someday! biggrin

And Natsume, thank you biggrin

Nah, I'm still here smile

Yeah the reason the GP32 is still in use isn't for the games on it (which suck) but rather for the emulators. There are some good emulators for the old PC Engine platform, as well as Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, ZX Spectrum etc etc. Most of them are open source and are works in progress but it is pretty cool to be able play old C64 games on a handheld.

But of course, high-end mobile are powerful enough to do a decent job of emulating these old platforms too... the only problem being that some of the input devices don't support 8-way.

Ah but which version, the SNES version? N64? GBA?

My favourite version is the GBA version. And I play as Kinopio (Toad) smile

I was talking about SNES. I have a ZSNES emulator, and a program called Zbattle which allows you to play people online. I love playing Mario Kart over it. Great fun.
