Computer Question

Does anyone know how to completely wipe drive C for XP Pro?

i have a laptop running XP Pro and i want to format the hard-drive ready to install Linux...being a Microsoft product it is a fucking waste of time looking up the problem on their help menu/website.

If I re-installed XP from my discs it would reformat the whole thing, but my discs also restore my factory settings (ie Put on all my sortware).

I'm gonna wait til I get a hard disc that isn't phiscally curupted!

i wouldn't advise installing unix/linux on your laptop though
laptops have an abundance of drivers, that are specific for that machine
if you wipe your hard drive then install a new o/s
you could find that your laptop does not work

as a rule i dont mess with the original configuration of laptops, to much headache.

in theory yes, but it never works, linux doesn't like any semblance of microsoft code or formatting. shit it would be easier to just get a new hard drive

and yes ofcourse there is a fdisk utility on xp pro unless you got one of those of those pre installed copies.

If you're really lazy, sticking a magnet against your hard drive will wipe it out.

Red Hat 4 is the suck. At LEAST download Red Hat 7.3, You should update to the latest though.

Here's a trick and you'll love having the CD afterwards: get the english Knoppix ISO. It's a boot off CD Linux app and it will do the work of killing any partitions you need. It comes with a tons of free apps like gdisk, linux fdisk, etc. and other more graphical disk management tools.

If you want to be REAL SWEET. Get VMWARE and boot a Linux app on your XP install wink

Honestly: I'm confused, though. I'm having a hard time understanding why you bash WinXP and praise Linux/Mac, but you have no idea how to kill NTFS5 partitions.

Anyway, http://www.linuxiso.org is your friend. smile

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another
