My Father's Getting Married for the 4th Time!!!

Good Lawd, the man is not cut out for marriage, but he's gonna do it for the 4th time next weekend! Let's wish him the best, huh? rolleyes wink

My question is: how many times have your parents been married, and did their marriage affect how you look at marriage?

my dad was married twice, 2 years the first time and 55 the second.

until death do us part...unless someone cheats then I'll have to really think about it.

Did your dad/parents' marriage(s) make you look at getting married any differently? Like, do you think you're more careful or hesitant to get married, or do you think it hasn't really affected how you look at it?

WOW, althom! woot!

Is it a happy marriage? And how do you think watching their marriage affected you, how did it make you view marriage and affect your decision to get married? (if it did at all)

They are happy. They actually were childhood sweethearts. I think they knew each other since they were 9.

It hasn't affected my opinion.

My parents have been married forty years, my grandparents were married for over sixty(till my grandfather died) and i was divorced in eight so it didn't affect my opinion.

I'll send him your regards pimp

He was gettin' "it" from her without marriage, so I don't know why she's insisting a wedding now...probably because she finally got up the courage to introduce him to her mother. My father is 60 and she's 55, but she's still scared of her mama not likin' her boyfriend or thinking they're living in sin! eek

Damn, this is like pulling teeth! I can't get people to answer the 2nd part of my question--how their parents affected the way they look at marriage/relationships. sigh

(Understandable, though)

Oh, no, don't apologize honey-bunny bunny--it wasn't directed at you so much as just in general.

My mom was my dad's first wife, and we're his only kids. My mom married my stepdad when I was about 12 yrs old, and they've been together ever since. So that's been an excellent role model for me as far as marriage goes. But my father is another story--watching him with his wives, and the way he was so emotionally distant and judgmental of them, has really affected me, I think. I definitely got a mixed message, but I think all in all I've worked through a lot of it...

in my early and mid-20s, i only got into short-term relationships - i think that may have been one of the results of growing up in a dysfunctional family. so the question of marriage didn't present itself then. i had been with my husband for over 10 years before we got married, but that was mostly his doing.

how do you think your father's marriage history has affected you, if at all? and has your mother remarried, too?

My parents are still married... almost 34 years. I am
envious of their relationship cause they are still so
in love. I have been married twice... made wrong choices...
but always hoped that one day I'd have a marriage just like theirs.
I never believed in divorce, but when the
other party you are married to does it is kinda dificult
to work at something so hard when the other sees the easy
way out... reason for two marriages both ending in divorce!
I am still a hopeless romantic and will find "the one" someday!
He calls me "Holi" cuz he says everyday w/ me is like a Holiday...

Wow... I understand. My dad was my mom's second... and she basically left him out of the blue. My stepmom lived with us for over a decade before they married... he was so scared to put himself and me through it all again.
