Any Surfers on This Website??

I have never surfed before in my life, but have recently been watching people on TV surfing, and it looks like fun (something I would love to try).

My question is, is learning to surf difficult? I have watched surfers on TV: they lay on their board and paddle out a little from the shore. Then when a wave comes, they stand up on their board and ride the wave in. But I know there is a heck of a lot more to surfing than that, and there are certain techniques that need to be used in order to be able to surf well.

Any feedback/thoughts on this topic?
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

There are alot of things that can make it dangerous or difficult.Minus the tricks and moves, standing up and riding the wave without getting flashy is pretty simple. If you have any coordination at all you'll be standing up your first time out.But its a whole different story when the waves start to get in the area of 7 feet and up,then you better know what your doing and be a really strong swimmer reguardless. Its also extremly important the be able to read and know what to do about certain tides you can get caught up in.

Actually I've never surfed a day in my life, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

Damn I'm just a yakkin fool today, better cut back on the blow

Thanks for the information, crazyhorse. As I said earlier, I have never surfed either, since where I live is not a surfing place anyway. I probably would need to go to a tropical place with small waves to try it out. biggrin
