I was into MAD Magazine...Sergio Aragones was actually a role-model of sorts as I emulated his style for a many years (he did all those tiny cartoons in the margins).

Who were some of the people that you could not learn enough about?

When I was a kid, some of my heroes were:

Albert Einstein
Benjamin Franklin
David Hume
Bertrand Russell
Friedrich Nietzsche
Plato...

What the fuck kind of kid were you?! omfg

Oh wait..what age are we talking about? I sure as hell couldn't read Bertrand Russell at age 10.

I am talking anywhere from 3 to 15 or so...

As far as what kind of kid I was, picture this: I have never used drugs or smoked. I have imbibed alcohol one time... I was 12. I learned to read before kindergarten and I kept right on reading all through my childhood. While other kids were out drinking alcohol, using drugs and doing stupid shit, I was reading and learning things.

I started reading Bertrand Russell and all those guys when I was about 12... my first real philosophy book was "A History of Western Philosophy" by Bertrand Russell. That wonderful book introduced me to many great philosophers and I loved it, although Russell wasn't much of a fan of Nietzsche. I didn't get into Nietzsche until I was about 14 or so and I didn't fully get what he was saying until much later.

I have loved Einstein since I was a little kid... I was fascinated by him for some reason. I read about him as a kid, although I had NO idea what his theories meant until I got older. I thought that he looked neat.

I learned about Benjamin Franklin from a third-grade teacher (basic stuff, you know) and I found him to be very interesting. I read a lot about him... he was much more brilliant than most people know.

Naaah... imbibe simply means "to drink."

im·bibe ( P ) Pronunciation Key (m-bb)
v. im·bibed, im·bib·ing, im·bibes
v. tr.
To drink.

To absorb or take in as if by drinking: “The whole body... imbibes delight through every pore” (Henry David Thoreau).

To receive and absorb into the mind: “Gladstone had... imbibed a strong prejudice against Americans” (Philip Magnus).

Obsolete. To permeate; saturate.

v. intr.
To drink alcoholic beverages.

Oh yeah--Gene Simmons was my first real taste of masculinity...I had no father figure around until age 10, so he was actually a very powerful influence in a strange sort of way.

Oh, hell yes... Kiss were REALLY BIG heroes of mine! How could I have forgotten to mention them... they meant a whole lot to me when I was kid.

I never got into them although Jello did a great voice sample on Ice T's album announcing Martial Law.

Yeah, Jello was on that Ice-T track that used the song "Black Sabbath" by Black Sabbath as the music... it was a unique track.

biggrin

Jello Biafra made a very big impression on me as a kid.

Wow... did you know I met Mr. Shultz? I grew up in the same city. (Santa Rosa, CA) I've interned at his memorial museum and he also has a ice skating rink. It was called Snoopy's Ice Arena (now called Snoopy's Home Ice) and every winter we would see "Snoopy On Ice", a Peanuts ice show.

I was 8... my dad and I were coming out of the building after skating... and he was just standing there. I didn't know who he was, but my dad did. He said, "Jana! Do you know who this man is? He's the reason all of this exists! He draws Snoopy!" Mr. Shultz smiled, and I ran up and hugged him. I've never felt so inclined to do that to a stranger... he gave me a long hug and season tickets for the rest of the year!

He was like an angel.

That is sooo cute! big grin
