Has anyone seen the trailer for Mel Gibson's "Passion"?

The movie is about the Passion of Christ. It is filmed in Aramaic and Latin, with no subtitles. Based on what I saw from the trailer, it is like "Braveheart": unflinching and graphic. Apparently, it will also incorporate a bit of Christian mysticism (Satan is in it). It looks like it's going to be a fascinating movie.

Go to www.movies.com, click on the "Buzz Bin" section, and follow the link to the "Passion" trailer.

Haven't been to a movie in a long time, so I haven't seen the trailer yet. I heard some gossip about some controversy on that movie, though. Jog my memory...?

No, but I am intrigued by it.

However, I heard they decided against omitting the subtitles.

the trailer didn't grab me. it just looked like any of the other variations on the story. if word of mouth and reviews are good i might go see it. i do think it's rocking that someone had the balls to film a 3 hour movie in aramic and latin with no subtitles.

It's based on the Gospel of Mark, which has references to the Jews being responsible for the death of Christ, a.k.a. the Blood Libel. Having just read "Constantine's Sword," I am well aware of the horrific damage the Blood Libel has caused to Jews all over the world. But I can't really tell from the trailer whether the movie casts an accusatory eye towards the Jews.

As to cborgman, this version looks familiar (as does the story), but it also looks like it will be unflinching. It will be hard to top the depictions in "Jesus of Nazareth" or "The Last Temptation of Christ," but this version at least has accurate languages in it.

i know that given my anti-religion stance, it will seem like i don't want to see it because of my beliefs, but i have no problems seeing movies with strong relioug messages if they are good. i don't believe in that message any more than i would that aliens might attack after seing "alien."

what really turns me off about it is the fact that it has been done SOOO many times with slight variations. I love "fight club" and "american beauty", and was inspired by the messages of both, but i really don't want to see movies with a slightly different variation on the tale, or miniseries or play versions performed by precocious 7 year olds in churches. how many versions of the story of christ do we need before people are happy? there is a new version every few years. the NBC miniseries was just on like, what, 2 years ago?

that having been said, if the reviews and/or word of mouth is decent, i will go see it.
