looking over the options just highlights the old adage that you cannot change another person, you can only change yourself and your reaction. seems to me that a baiting and flaming orger with nobody who will be baited and flamed will soon move on to another site where those tactics still work.

Then the moderator and user have a chat, the mod explains the site rules and how their are being broken by the user's behaviour, and if there's cooperation and understanding on the part of the user, the account gets re-activated.

Although that system doesn't always work, I do prefer it to "banishing" people even if we had the means to do that. I'd rather people just learn to communicate with each other with civility like grown-ups, rather than force us to turn people away from our site (which we cannot do anyway).

Ian, has their been a particular inceident recently that's caused this to come to your atention?

You are right though... we can't change other people. I can't force someone to change their personality, and I can't force people to like other. All we can do as adults is try to find a way to tolerate people we dislike, and to learn to communicate with at least civility with people who aren't necessarily our best pals. Saying "I hate this person, I want him removed" without (a) saying why (b) saying how isn't exactly a solution

hell, if they go to another site they'll end up in the same cycle, so what's the use in that?

ok. i failed the game.

so then i tried again using option g: viciously,ruthlessly, flagrantly attack the orger in question, giving him/her a taste of his/her own medicine until he/she cries uncle. . . would that work?? hmm?? would it?? hmmm???
