I don´t think it´s any use deleting accounts or trying to talk to the person in question (as you pointed out yourself). Generally I believe in letting things be what they are as much as possible. Censorship just stirs up bad feelings. Ah, it's a lovely theory, and I'd prefer that solution myself (censorship sucks, and it creates work for me). However in practise when we tried such solutions, the ENTIRE forum was taken over by a few petty individuals and many people had their experience of the site ruined for 24 hours just because that argument got way out of control. Isn't it a shame we can't just trust people to act like adults? When a group of users are really determined to fuck up a forum, they can do it very quickly if left to their own devices - with limited moderator resources, you wouldn't be able to delete the problematic threads quickly enough. And of course, deleting threads pisses people off because they may have contributed some good posts to those threads only to have it lost because of the actions of a few selfish individuals.... Choose Your Own Org Adventure! You are the moderator. Play now! Imagine... Now, one day you encounter the mysterious Orger X. I've not met him personally, how come he gets 2 have a space in his name? Like many of the Org's big personalities, this person enjoys a good argument. No harm there, debate is good. Enjoys provoking those that are easily provoked. Now this is not good. Sounds like bullying 2 me! And other orgers have a right to protection. He has flamed people at times, and caused several flame wars. Damn, not cool. How many times has this problem been addressed with this individual. He's made some friends, but also some enemies too, How exactly has he made enimies! all of whom are now howling for his blood, demanding you take action. It seems to me that it would be simpler (not simple) to just delete the bad posts as they come since the above mentioned preventive measures don´t have any real effect (since people can just create new accounts again etc.)

It seems to me that it would be simpler (not simple) to just delete the bad posts as they come since the above mentioned preventive measures don´t have any real effect (since people can just create new accounts again etc.) Well the point is - if a group of users have multiple accounts, they can post faster than you can delete them. So, abusive posters who are ruining the forums HAVE to be prevented from posting at some point. Otherwise, things snowball out of control and the site is ruined for the 99% of people who come here to enjoy themselves and who don't want any of the bullshit

I have to go to work, so I don't have the time to properly address this thread at the moment. However, I do want to say that my opinion is that you've oversimplified/trivialized the matter and the very real concerns of a large number of Orgers whose experience has been altered permanently by some of the perceived favoritism, ian. I find that there is a lot going on under the surface of this place that goes missed, and DOES get reported, but is not understood for what it is.
No, that "large number of Orgers" I refered to does not include me. I have determined that I will no longer fight anyone's battles but my own here, after having put myself in the middle of too many personal skirmishes that had nothing to do with me, where I foolishly thought I could help people. I am here now only to have fun, learn and interact with those I admire.

true, but some folks get too heated at times and tend to go ridiculously overboard with their arguments... Enjoys provoking those that are easily provoked. Now this is not good. Sounds like bullying 2 me! And other orgers have a right to protection.
and orgers have the right to protect themselves too, as long as it adheres with the site rules...you can tell a person to fuck off, just don't go after them too...'less you want a taste of the mod's whippin stick, too. He has flamed people at times, and caused several flame wars. Damn, not cool. How many times has this problem been addressed with this individual.
probably several, since he's caused so many flame wars... He's made some friends, but also some enemies too, How exactly has he made enimies!
well ummm, he flames and provokes people...some people get along as well as water and oil. all of whom are now howling for his blood, demanding you take action. Is their hwling justifed, do U belive that if U could U would remove them perminantly.
like it's been mentioned before, ya can't remove a person permanently...but if that were possible, then yeah. banish the bastids to the Island of the Misfit Fams! have them flame the fammie-fams, trollers and hardcore flamers for all eternity... fuck fuck fuck! Certainly possible, but what would you do about such things "under the surface". How would you deal with it? I'm not trivialising anything - the question is, what can you do in a situation like that? No, that "large number of Orgers" I refered to does not include me. I have determined that I will no longer fight anyone's battles but my own here, after having put myself in the middle of too many personal skirmishes that had nothing to do with me, where I foolishly thought I could help people. Great, but what would you do in this situation if you were moderator? Which option would you choose? As you can see they all have their problems. Plenty of people sit on the sidelines and grumble about how crap something is, but it is another matter entirely to come up with a solution. Not that I am saying that about you, AL2.

It depends how much of a problem they are causing! No, most internet service providers allocate a new IP address to each user every time they log on. You can set up a new Hotmail account in a few minutes. It is very very easy to stay on the Org, we have no way of stopping people coming here. Which is why our efforts focus on letting people stay, but trying to get them to follow the site rules as best they can, whilst they are here.
