My dog did the bravest and most romantic thing... A couple of days ago I was bringing my two min-pins to my parents tattoo shop and as we got close to the shop I saw a lady sitting on the front step with a pit-bull. I love dogs but I don't have any love for pitbulls as I have read too many stories about pit-bulls attacking children.
The dogs started barking at each other and I told her she had to move because we were going into the shop. The lady kind of looked at me but she didn't move and just as I was about to tell her to get off her ass the pit-bull broke his leash and was coming right at me. My two dogs (Dayzee and Coolio) were obviously worried as Coolio weighs 11 pounds and Dayzee weighs only 8 and this pit-bull weighed like 150 pounds (or more it seemed) and was coming at us fast. Dayzee and Coolio started wrapping themselves around me tying the leashed around my ankles and then they finally slipped free of their collars and started to run away. Now I was really freaked because we had a big ass dog coming for my dogs and he looked as if he might make a meal out of them and we were also on a very busy street (White Bear Avenue and Arlington for Minnesota locals) and I was worried that my dogs might run out into the street and get ran over. The Pit-bull zeroed in on Dayzee (the red minpin in the pictures below) and she was trying her best to get away from him, but the pit-bull was too fast for her. The pit-bull got close to her and he nipped her and she yelped loudly. At this moment Coolio ran at the pit-bull and wrapped his paws around the pit-bulls back leg and started biting him. Coolio was basically biting the dogs in the ankle as he was outweighed by like 150 pounds and was a lot shorter then him. The pit-bull didn't seem like he was hurting, but Coolio didn't let go and the pit-bull gave up on Dayzee and concentrated on getting Coolio off his leg, but somehow Coolio managed to hold on. Just then the owner of the pit-bull who was getting a tattoo ran outside and was able to grab his dog by the collar and I was able to round up my dogs and run inside. It turns out that both of my dogs were fine, but in retrospect I couldn't believe that Coolio had the guts to fight a pit-bull to protect his wife Dayzee. I'm not sure I would have the guts to standup to a 2,000 pound man who was after my girl so I have a lot of respect for the little guy. Yay Coolio! Coolio is the black and tan and Dayzee is the red. . [This message was edited Mon Jul 21 16:28:27 PDT 2003 by lovemachine]

They are! It's funny because typically Coolio doesn't like to get into it with other dogs, but he must have sensed that Dayzee was in real danger and stepped in to protect her. He is always telling me that he is a Doberman who hasn't hit his growth spurt yet so...

Dogs known as Pitbulls (They are not one breed, more like a collective of Staffordshire Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers, etc.) are fabulous dogs. Too bad you cant say the same about many of their owners. As an owner of a Rednosed American PitBull Terrier, I appologize that the dog you met wouldnt be considered, as we like to say, a Breed Ambassador. A few may spoil the bunch but it only takes one good one to change your mind.
Here is what many of them are normally like. This is Ripper (he was adopted, we didnt name him) and Chewie the Boston Terrier. as you see in my avatar... and a normal sight... The white line on his nose is a scar. Since we adopted him, we beleive he was used as a "bait dog". "Bait dogs" are usually tied up and used to train other dogs to fight. The scar discolored his hair and digs into his mouth and back of neck. We beleive it was from a rope used to tie his mouth together. He is scared to death of fire also, so he may have been burned. He is the sweetest boy on earth and like many other "Pitbulls" he would change your mind in an instant about the breed. Now we just have to whip some of the owners into shape. Your dog looks super cool and I suppose that you are right about it being as much the owners fault as the dogs fault. Thanks for giving me something to think about BTW props for adopting a dog that had been abused and giving it a good life

Thanks for giving me something to think about BTW props for adopting a dog that had been abused and giving it a good life Thanks for the kind words. Your dogs look pretty cool. I love minpins but have always been afraid to get one thinking they may be a bit yappy. Both of my dogs do not bark too much so it is great. a lot of "PitBulls" do have issues with other dogs if not introduced properly, and even then they can sometimes get a little angry at a pestering dog. that is my only complaint about them. we tried to adopt another female a few weeks ago and it attacked my "pitbull". Luckly mine had a muzzle on to meet the other dog or we would have had a huge problem on our hands. he ended up with a couple bites on him. i felt awful for allowing that to happen! "pitbulls" are usually very good around people and children if they are not trained to be agressive. it is a problem that a lot of the people who want "pitbulls" want them for the wrong reasons. they want to be macho and look cool and possibly fight them. mine, like most who are properly trained, is lazy, fat and always smiling. there isnt much macho about him. yay coolio!!!
i always feel sorry when i hear about animals at the mercy of irresponsible pet owners. pit bulls have a bad reputation because of what humans have used them for. they can be just as sweet as anything, when given the right environment
