I'm a former nerd. I was even nominated as class nerd in high school. I went from a predominately white school from k-8 to an almost all black high school. My silly ass was walking aroung with Duran Duran buttons on me from head to toe and a Duran Duran headband that I make from cutting up a sheet and taping cut out pictures on it. The kids were looking at me like **************************************************

finally! a convincing argument for increased alcohol consumption!! i'll drink to that! I'm not really that happy about the loss of brain cells, but too much and of course has taken its toll... Oh well... Let's drink to that! Cheers!! (Hic) [This message was edited Thu Jul 17 11:42:38 PDT 2003 by Pluto]

Fortunately, by the time I was in high school, I got involved in enough activities (such as music, sports, and academic competition) that I got along with a wide variety of people and didn't feel like an outcast. I've heard about the abuse that some kids suffer at the hands of their classmates, and it's terrible. My mother-in-law, who is a teacher, tells her students, "Be nice to the nerds... someday you'll be working for them." Please note: effective March 21, 2010, I've stepped down from my prince.org Moderator position. |

(is that nerdy of me to ask?) Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser. It's about how the fast food industry has not only changed what the we eat but also how businesses are run in many other industries. I found it to be an incredibly interesting book and recommend it to most anybody who is interested in how these businesses work and how they became the way that they are.
