I resisted for a long time, but I finally bought an iPod...

...and I must say that Apple is absolutely brilliant. I bought the new 30gb iPod and, in anticipation of the arrival of my new toy, I made around 400 AAC files at 320k and the sound quality is great. I created various playlists, equalizer settings for various albums, etc. All of this was done in iTunes.

The iPod arrived and I unpacked it... I plugged the firewire cable in and it automatically connected to iTunes and synchronized everything. It only took a couple of minutes to transfer nearly 400 songs and all the settings to the iPod.

I ejected the iPod, made more AAC files and playlists and then docked it again. It synchronized flawlessly and very quickly. This thing is absolutely the BEST portable audio device in the known universe.

Yay for Apple!

You are absolutely right... the iPod is absolutely worth the extra money. That little jewel can even be used to boot your computer... strange, but true.

I'm going to buy an ibook or powerbook before I leave for London and am really considering investing in an iPod as well. I'm glad you've found it so great Ice - that gives me even more incentive to get it.

The iPod could, of course, be broken if dropped... it has a hard drive in it and hard drives don't like being dropped, but it is not any more likely to be damaged by that sort of thing than any other electronic device with a hard drive.

There is no real reason to clear the songs from your hard drive, but you could back them up to DVD or something if you are worried about losing songs. As far as theft goes, it is not Apple's fault if your songs are lost due to someone stealing your iPod. smile

iTunes is absolutely wonderful... VERY simple and intuitive... NO learning curve at all. The same goes for the iPod, as iTunes does all the work for you.

They are really, really great. smile

I hope that Apple gets the new 15.4" Powerbook out in time for your trip... that will be the one to buy.

A new Powerbook and an iPod would be a potent combination!

I just thought that they were too expensive and I didn't imagine that they would be SO MUCH better than everything else out there... I was wrong. They are FAR better than anything else out there and the price is fine with me.

The new version is smaller and lighter than the previous iPods, so I went for it and I found that the iPod really is all that people say that it is.

woot! thanks

thanks! My friend had one and while at work (with earphones in) it fell off his desk. When it broke he had a horrible time trying to get it fixed and should have ended up just buying a new one. Its a catch 22, no one else can repair them, they charge an arm and a leg, and no one tells you how fragile they are in the ad.

15.4" Powerbook! I'm in Heaven. However, I might have to settle with an iBook since I already have a desktop computer and the extra money and everything.

man i really want one but i am resisting at the moment cuz i figure i only have 62 tracks on my itunes anyway. and i'm not going to get the cheaper mosel ipod cuz it doesn't come with the dock but i don't need 9000 songs all the time.

i figure i'll give it another year or maybe two years and the ipod will be the ultimate lifestyle tool. i'm looking forward to a colour screen, maybe it will be a mobile phone, maybe you could download songs via the itunes store str8 to your ipod, etc, etc...it's bound to happen.
but job well done. everytime i go out the damn door tho, someone is rocking the white headphones. shocked
