It would be politically incorrect to call me an ass-ramming-cockmaster on TV, instead of simply refering to me as a homosexual.

I just have one question. Since when did it become so awful to offend somebody? Political Correctness is a disease because it is enforced when a single person becomes offended for any reason. People need to realize that they dont have the right to not have their feelings hurt. It happens. Get over it and stop getting the government and media involved.

Somebody doesnt believe in Christmas so they want the Christmas parade stopped in their town. And the town does it. Ever notice how every sports team that comes out now has the name of an animal or another non-human object. wouldnt want to offend anyone. midgets are now "verticly challenged". retarded people are now called "special". etc. etc. etc.

That is the disease that is political correctness.

that is a little different because it is deliberatly offensive. far too often political correctness is applied to non-intentional offensiveness.

still. do you have the right not to be offended? no. you have the right to think that person is a complete moron for saying that but as long as that person isnt verbally assaulting (threatening) you or continuously pestering (harrassing) you, is it really that bad?

hey, it might be. i wouldnt know. im not an ass-ramm... just kidding.

the only PC thing i will say i agree with is native american, and hear me out before you slam me. it's not because i think it insensitive to call them indians, it's just plain stupid that some moron made a huge mistake a few hundred years ago, and we continue to use it as if it were correct. then the argument comes up "well thatis what we have called them for all this time, it's pointless to change it" to which i usually respond "from now on, i am going to call you sally, regardless of the fact it isn't your name. enjoy!"

not to mention it's confusing since there is a group of people that are appropriately called indians.

So, on to the topic...

Political correctness is a disease... it is a disease that was created by those who wish to control the minds of the public. So many people believe that you should be ashamed of yourself for having a dissenting opinion, or not liking what others like. It has gotten so bad that people are afraid to say what they think for fear of being looked down upon by others and called intolerant, a bigot, a racist, an asshole, insensitive or any number of other things that people with small minds will say about those who express their opinions. Political correctness tries to sweep reality under the rug and I believe that it is very harmful to humanity. By being afraid to express yourself, your mind is being controlled by those who do not want to see the truth.

I, for one, would like to see a world where people do not walk on eggshells all the time. People like what they like and don't like what they don't like... there should be no shame in that. You are not a bad person just because you don't like what others like and you are not wrong for expressing your opinions on things. This is something that those who would label you are unaware of... you cannot control people's thoughts and any attempts to do so will only make problems worse.

Political correctness is the tool of the thought police.

How can I say this in a politically correct way, as not to offend anyone. I disallow creditability to anyone who cannot stand on their own two feet. Especially those with napolean complexes. Their small stature usually causes all kinds of misfires to go off in their brains. They like to bully people around, they always have to have the admiration of others to feel "big" (I guess size does matter afterall, hehe) And what really gets me is when they use other peoples ideas and thoughts to hide their own lack of character. Also, they get others to do their bidding instead of doing it themselves like real men & women. They remind me of the little brat that spits in your face, get punched in the eye and go running to "Daddy" or "Mommy"...Jeffery punched me in my eye! When the little brat deserved it.

I agree with all of this.

On the other hand, though, political correctness, when applied to its BEST uses, is no more than politeness or common courtesy to allow others to be who they want to be or think what they want to think. Only when it gets out of hand, does it backfire, and stifle dissenting opinion.

And I would add that it often does backfire, giving the word/notion/whatever it's bad reputation. On the other hand, though it's great to have one's own opinion or lifestyle or whatever, and hold firmly to ones own beliefs, there is nothing wrong, in MY opinion, with political correctness, in the sense that it says to a person "gee, i know who i am and what i believe, but maybe i'm not 100% correct, and there's room for others' as well. they may even be right, i don't know." that is how political correctness SHOULD work, and often doesn't, giving it a bad name in general.

Once again, you are correct... I would replace political correctness with simple politeness. Politeness is a good thing... you should be polite to people you meet and all that... I am 100% polite to all people I meet or interact with each day until such time that they do something that prompts me to be unpleasant. I find that most people are very easy to get along with and I like that.

Political correctness is the tool of the thought police.

For once I agree with you whole heartidly, People are afraid to speak their minds all, because of the P word... in my opinon people need 2 stop being so damn sensetive and see the truth for what it is, life and in life everything ain't gonna always be sugar coded, i'm sorry but that there is the truth

Right... the thing is that people who are so scared to speak their minds will often times fall in with the pack and condemn someone who speaks their mind simply because a small group of people are too stupid to understand the truth about what that person has said. When the PC police say that a person is intolerant, a bigot, a racist, an asshole, insensitive or whatever else, they really ARE those things to those who are too blind to see the truth and only want to please others. It doesn't matter if a person is really nothing like the small-minded, politically-correct idiots say, they will try to label and brand that person because they don't like what they have to say. This sort of attempted mind control is dangerous, as it compels many people to not speak their mind for fear of being labeled. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to be afraid to speak their mind.

So are you saying that if a person is a bigot, a racist, an asshole, insensitive or whatever else people who condemn that aren't right in doing so?
Do you think we should just accept that bigotry and racism and champion their ignorance to avoid falling into a category of political correctness?

I am saying that there are many ignorant people who will brand someone a "bigot, a racist, an asshole, insensitive or whatever" when they are not any of those things and that they will cry a river about it because they are uncomfortable with the views of the person in question. Calling someone a racist is a convenient tool for the weak-minded, as there is a very large stigma attached to the word and it is easier to try to discredit someone than to discuss any issues. The PC thought police would have you believe that anyone who dislikes anything about any person or group of people is a "bigot, a racist, an asshole, insensitive or whatever" although the person is simply someone who speaks their mind.

Disliking certain aspects of people's behaviors, lifestyles, etc. is not wrong, but there are many who would say that it makes you a bad person... those people are ignorant and harmful to society.

clapping There are a lot of things we don't agree on Tony but with this one you are right on the button.
Hope you and your family are well.hug

Hmmm... Manners and politeness... For me, they only go so far in getting to know who that real person is underneath.

I think they can be useful in building a relationship with another person. I also think they can be detrimental, if used when they are empty and said 'merchanically', or used as a way of control or used as a way to hide from expressing a personal truth/s.

Yes, promotes stale ground, working from auto-pilot, creates a 'pleasant' barrier so as to not get close to others.

What is needed is to go through a bit of a time of rebellion, rejecting the need to use PC, to then be able to say something a bit more like the truth of what is being experienced, in a confident and unafraid manner.

Since you scored so highly on the online IQ test, I assume you have never called anyone a racist, yes no?

Also, does your theory apply to religion and people's choice of beliefs. Are they also entitled to believe and say what they will without be called retards for what they believe?

And how do you feel about people who avoid answering direct questions?

Also, I assume that you've never used that "Report to Moderator" feature either. Cause based on your post regarding political correctness being a disease one who used the "Report to Moderator" feature like a remote controlled car but then talks about this disease of not being able to say and feel what you want would be a little...how can I say this in a polite way...touched. LOL yeah, touched.

So Icenine can you please address my direct questions above?

IceNine replied: Yes, I have called someone a racist. Was I right about him? I cannot say... The one thing I can say for sure is that I didn't run around making an ass out of myself for an extended period of time about it... I said what I had to say to that person in private orgnotes and left it at that.

Also, does your theory apply to religion and people's choice of beliefs. Are they also entitled to believe and say what they will without be called retards for what they believe?

IceNine replied: I do not call people "retards" for believing what they believe. I criticize organized religion and the philosophies involved. I have a great deal of respect for some christians out there. You can search all you want on here and you will not find a post where I called someone stupid or a "retard" because of their beliefs. You fall into the category of people who cannot separate a belief from a person. Just because I don't agree with a person's belief does not mean that I think that they are a "retard" or a stupid person... perhaps you should think about that.

And how do you feel about people who avoid answering direct questions?

IceNine replied: I believe that everyone has the right to avoid any bullshit and bait from people who try to bait them. This reply is the last time that I will reply to you on here, as you and your pals have been doing nothing other than trying to bait me since you signed up.

IceNine replied: Of course I have used the "report to moderator" link. When you and your buddies (all three of them) try to bait me and constantly act like sobbing school children, I report it and move on without bothering with you. As I said before, I have no intention of being baited by you and I don't really care what you say. When you and your buddies try to flame me or bait me, I will report it. It is a simple system.

So Icenine can you please address my direct questions above?

IceNine replied: See above... I replied.

I, for one, would like to see a world where people do not walk on eggshells all the time. People like what they like and don't like what they don't like... there should be no shame in that. and any attempts to do so will only make problems worse.

Political correctness is the tool of the thought police.

There you have it -- "Thought police". That means Icenine believes no one should be banned and/or deactivated for their thoughts posted on this site. Right Icenine? Or No? As I've said before I'm a bit confused right now, can you help me out?

IceNine replied: There are set rules on this site that we must obey. I have been banned in the past for breaking these rules, therefore I do not break them anymore. It has nothing to do with the "thought police" when you are dealing with a private site with rules that are enforced by the owners/moderators. Maybe you should think a little bit... use your mind and you won't be so confused. It is not complicated. As far as "helping you out" goes, I would suggest a few courses on critical thinking, debate and philosophy.

So, on to the topic...

Since you scored so highly on the online IQ test, I assume you have never called anyone a racist, yes no?

Thank you for that response Icenine. "I have called someone a racist" by Icenine. So what's the point of this thead? I know Icenine will not be responding to this question so can one of his loyal friends who knows him well please answer this for me. What is the point? Smokescreen? No?

Ok only speak you mind, but not on this site right. Political correctness is only a disease if not used on this particular sight. Ok, got that one too. Thank you for enlightening me Icenine.

This thread was well thought out I see. hehe

I believe what he actually said in a nutshell was:

We all have the right to believe whatever we want and we also have the right to express that opinion whenever we want. However we also live in a society that has certain rules and regulations that we must obey or...and this is the point be prepared to take the consequences.

What he, and I,and many others, object to is being morally judged or unable to express our right to an opinion just because it may not, at this time, be politically correct.

Now please stop baiting and argue the point not pick on a person.
