Don't expect very much zombie action... it was a pretty good movie, but I wouldn't call it a zombie movie. They had an intriguing concept... they just didn't follow through with any real zombie action.

Very, very poor. It started interestingly and with intrigue. But then I felt it lost its way really, really badly and became a bit of a joke. I dont really wanna give 2 much a way becuz U may want 2 see it. But 4 me, Na! It lost its focus.

It is not even remotely like Night of the Comet... 28 Days Later tries to be a bit artsy... it is not a typical "horror" or "zombie" movie in any way. It is really not a horror movie in the classic sense.

Do you think that there was enough zombie action to really call it a zombie movie?

Do you think that it should really be called a horror movie, or should it be classified as a drama?

No way! It was a movie that happened to involve zombies in the plot, but I wouldn't call it a zombie movie.

Aren't horror movies supposed to be scary? This one wasn't (to me) and it seemed much more of a drama with the premise of the plot.

We are on the same page here. smile

I don't understand why people are saying that it has "re-defined the zombie genre" in reviews... I guess they mean that zombie movies will not require zombies now that this movie is out and being accepted as a zombie movie.

At any rate, I liked the idea of the movie and I thought that it was good for what it was, not what it is said to be in advertisements.

lol When I saw the movie, I had not seen any advertisements, so I didn't really know what to expect, which made it a nice surprise. To say that it has revolutionized the zombie genre is ludicrous, though.

The debate over wether its exclusively a 'zombie film' goes some way 2 reaffirming my point earlier. I feel 28 Days Later has interesting ideas, but never fully fleshes them out. It doesnt know what it wants 2 be as a movie; is it a zombie movie? is it about human survival? I 4 1 was left unfulfilled. It was like eating a delicious looking doghnut without any jam. Unsatisfying and dissapointing.

Here are some excerpts of reviews that were REALLY off:

"The genuine article, a hard-core horror picture from start to finish...Prepare to get seriously stressed."
-- Glenn Kenny, PREMIERE MAGAZINE

"'Flee! Flee in terror from the Turbo-Zombies!'"
-- Paul Arendt, TELETEXT (UK)

"It's a gorgeous piece of writing. It also happens to be about flesh-eating zombies..."
-- Sean Burns, PHILADELPHIA WEEKLY

"Buckets of flesh eating fun."
-- Spyder Darling, NY ROCK

"Even though the creatures may not officially be zombies, 28 Days Later is still the best zombie movie since Dawn of the Dead, and arguably one of the best horror movies ever made. It’s certainly one of the smartest."
-- David Cornelius, AMAZING COLOSSAL WEBSITE

"These B-movie thrills in post-apocalyptic England would make George Romero proud."
-- Eleanor Ringel Gillespie, ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION

"Quite terrifying."
-- Annlee Ellingson, BOXOFFICE MAGAZINE

"These zombies aren’t just gruesome, they’re terrifying. They don’t wander around slowly. They come flying at you at full sprint."
-- Mervius, FANTASTICA DAILY

redface

I really enjoyed the film. I thought it was tension inducing although it didn't "scare me." IMO, it was quite gory and had sufficient action with the pseudo-zombies to call it a zombie flick. I thought the opening sequence of the lead staggering through a deserted London was just incredible.

I do agree that the movie did somewhat lose its way eventually and dragged on a titch too long. They seemed to have so many mini-stories that needed to be wrapped up that it took a LONG time for the movie to end.

Maybe my vision was skewed since the last movie I'd seen was "Legally Blonde 2" but I found this to be a very good film.

Two words: Not Scary

The first 6 minutes (free on the internet, mind you) were the best part of the movie. There was only one time in the whole movie that I jumped due to fright. Otherwise, good concept, bad execution.

If you must see the movie, save some dough and rent it when it comes out.

HAN'T ANYONE NOTICED THAT IT'S VIRTUALLY THE SAME STORY AS RESIDENT EVIL?

IT'S ALMOST AS THOUGH YOU COULD WATCH RESIDENT EVIL AND THEN 28 DAYS LATER AND IT WOULD FOLLOW ON.

BOTH LAME ANYWAY.
