NEW YORK - In what a real estate broker calls the costliest apartment sale ever in New York City, an unidentified British financier has agreed to pay $45 million for a Manhattan penthouse.

With 25-foot glass walls and a wraparound terrace, the two-floor condominium offers 360-degree views of Manhattan, including Central Park and the Hudson River.

"It's a big vote of confidence in New York City," said Pamela Liebman, CEO of the Corcoran Group, which represents the buyer. "After 9/11, we had people fleeing New York."

The 12,600-square-foot property is one of 10 penthouses topping the two towers of the AOL Time Warner Center that's nearing completion at Columbus Circle, near Central Park's southwest corner. The complex will be headquarters to AOL Time Warner and also house restaurants, stores and residences.

The contract price, which has not yet gone to closing, tops the sale of corporate raider Saul Steinberg's Park Avenue apartment for more than $36 million.

Actually I live in England in a place called Bournemouth, which is on the south coast and it is a resort area, but near here there is a very exclusive resort called Sandbanks and a lot of multi-millionairs live there( including some famous people) and have their boats and private planes at nearby Hurn Airport, and the properties there are far more expensive than properties of the same size in Upper Manhatten or even LA!!!

Yeah, but that doesn't make it right... or acceptable.
