How many hackers do you know?

Why do people hack into other's information? I saw Changing Lanes the other day and I realize that hackers can destroy another person's life just by the push of a button. Is this a crime? or should we just look over it?

Computer criminals who steal personal information often sell the information for profit, just like someone who steals a car.

The hackers that I know do it for the information, just to have it or see what they can do to get to it, not necessarily doing anything with it. Of course there are people who seel the info, but if they're that good they can prolly just get the money for themselves without selling anything.
