The New Archie Bunker one of my old time favorite shows is all in the family. You know even though ArchiE Bonker was kinda racist in his ways, He still pretty much a cool guy and I was thinking, in today's day and age, we could never have a sitcome like All in the family. Back then the media weren't so much afraid to tackle difficult issues such as racism with comedy. but nowadays people are just a little bit to politically correct and would critize every joke a Archie Bunker charector would say.
Just imagin though, if there was a new Archie Bunker today... the show would be cancled in a number of weeks. Basically I think this generation are 2 sensetive and a bunch of wimps,compared to the last generation, the young generation tend 2 bitch about the smallest thing... like aminial rights "

The thing is though is that Carol O'Conner and Norman Lear were/are very progressive-thinking people (Norman Lear even co-wrote and episode of 'South Park'.) The character of Archie Bunker was actually created as a satire. But, yes, TV was much more free thinking in the 70s. | |

What some people on this board apparently missed from "All in the Family" is that the ultra-conservative, bigoted Bunker was always made to look foolish.
So there probably would be a lot of people upset by this type of a character in this day and age since it's apparently "chic" to be ultra-conservative and bigoted. A character like that would not be allowed to look foolish particularly when his views are so close to those of so many Bush supporters. | |
