Explain Amazon's top 50 sellers I was looking at Amazon's top sellers list in the music section and the 'Untitled' Clay Aiken cd was at #1. This wasn't the strange part to me. With Beyonce being the HOTTEST thing going (topping Billboard's album chart, singles chart and high on every other chart), why was she only at #10?
Looking further at the top 50 best sellers, there was only two other African Americans, Luther (#25) & Ashanti (at #30) besides two Barry White comp. cds. When I go to Billboard's hot 200 sales, in the top 30 alone there were: Beyonce at #1 Luther #3 Three G Mafia 50 cent Monica Gang Starr Seal Paul Lumidee R Kelly Black Eyed Peas Blu Cantrell Lil Kim So who orders from Amazon? No rap fans I see. A lot of Norah Jones and Clay Aiken fans??? ---------------------------------

Looking further at the top 50 best sellers, there was only two other Prince albums, 'Chaos And Disorder (#25) & Emancipation/NPS(Double pack) (at #30) besides two Carmen Electra out-take cds. When I go to Billboard's hot 200 sales, in the top 30 alone there were: Andre Agassi (spoken voice) at #1 The Best Of Bing Crosby #3 Barbra Streisand's Erotic album The Very Best of New Kids On The Block Harmonica Greats Eminem's Neither Fish Nor Flesh 'Seal Clubbing' - Dolly Parton Scream 3 Soundtrack R Sole 'Horse-Face Blues' - Sarah-Jessica Parker Blu Tac 'Diamonds And Hurls' - A Prince tribute CD by Jennifer Aniston So who orders from Amazon? No electric fans I see. A lot of Laura Norder and Clay Pot fans??? I think the people at Amazon play 'Fantasy Sales League' in their spare time and invent sales figures. _____ [This message was edited Wed Jul 9 11:18:27 PDT 2003 by Haystack]

To understand this, you have to merely understand the demographics of those who shop at amazon.com, do not represent the demographics of the entire music buying audience. Amazon is in no way representative of what sells and what does not, although there does appear to be some correlation because of the fact the Amazon does sell a lot, and also that many people are more inclined to buy what they've recently heard, which is typically what is on the Billboard 200.
Simple as that. They are amazon's top 50, but that doesn't mean they have to be the music industry's top 50. "Knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Better by far to embrace the hard truth than a reassuring faith. If we crave some cosmic purpose, then let us find ourselves a worthy goal" - Carl Sagan

Do they shop Amazon or their local record store? I think that Amazon is NOT what is selling Nationally, but what is selling to the online, lazy ass, don't want to leave the house and go to Target, buying pubic. It is not as acurate as a National sales ranking. ---------------------------------
