Kobe was arrested on the 4th of July on sex charges...

here's my question do you think he's innocent and this is just another case of somebody trying top come up or he's guilty?

Pro basketball athletes are the hottest commodities for the "groupie" types. It HAS to be hard for an NBA player to resist women who literally throw themselves at him (and believe me, if WNBA players made as much cash as the men, some men would be throwing themselves at them, too).

I could be wrong, but his accuser could be playing the "hit'em up" game (conviction leads to cash) and the sheriff's dept. may have been looking for a big fish.

There had to be some sort of evidence for him to be arrested (body fluids, abrasions, bruises, witnesses who saw them together) not just her say-so. Kobe or any other professional athlete has body guards/security available to him: if he wanted to protect himself from groupies, he had the resources. He knows better. Trying to act like he was helpless is a joke.

A prosecuting attorney once told me that faking rape is as common as faking any other type of crime--highly unusual, hardly happens when you look at the overall numbers. Celebrities often think they can get away with behaviors that "normal" people can't--RKelly, Mistikal (spelling?), Mike Tyson are just a few names that come to mind offhand.

Maybe we shouldn't assume she's a celebrity stalker who's framing him for money, just because we don't want it to be true. Neither should we assume he's guilty, either. I don't understand the rush to personal judgment of the characters in this drama.....

Everyone knows what happens when one assumes.

Interesting you mention prosecuting attorneys. The local DA didn't even know a warrant had been issued for Kobe's arrest. That indicates the officers didn't wait for their lawyer's clearance to make the collar.

Tell a black man that there has to be evidence to make an arrest, and he'll chuckle at you a bit.

Rape is a serious offense deserving of serious sanction. But prosecutors will also tell you that many more charges are dropped for lack of evidence.

No one should rush to judgment on any of this stuff, okay? But until we learn more, we have to think there is a possibility that one or more scenarios could be true.

No, the local DA didn't know--because a judge signed the approval to arrest him, after 30 hrs of investigation and waiting to make sure there was any evidence.

Tell a woman who's been sexually assaulted that there has to be evidence to make an arrest, and she'll "chuckle", too.

A day and six hours. Wow.

Tell a woman who's been sexually assaulted that there has to be evidence to make an arrest, and she'll "chuckle", too.

I doubt a woman who's been sexually assaulted would find reason to chuckle.

Most women are generally aware of the procedures to be followed to gather evidence to support a charge of sexual assault.

Most women who want their assailant to go to jail know that evidence needs to be obtained to support a conviction.

So that dog don't hunt, A-L.

Nobody said you were a feminazi. If this young woman were sexually assaulted, everyone should feel her pain.

All we're saying is that fame and money have to be considered when you're talking about a charge against one of the world's most famous athletes.

You don't think the DA is considering that?

Yet as your post indicates, a charge of sexual assault is so inflammatory that anyone can jump to conclusions. But proof of a criminal charge must be beyond a reasonable doubt. And I sense that you are finding it very difficult to give Kobe the benefit of the doubt.

'Fraid you missed my last point, though I was being a bit sarcastic. What I meant was that even when there's plenty of evidence of sexual assault, it isn't always enough to convict. The "chuckling" isn't really laughter, just as some black men who've experienced being arrested without evidence might not truly be laughing. Case in point, the judge in Italy who said the woman's jeans were too tight to have been forcibly removed by her assailant. Other similar, lovely judgments have come down from the bench re: sexual assault.

Ah, but here I go again...

Obi-Wan . . . I like that, not bad!

In any event, a Jedi uses his powers for knowledge and defense . . . never for attack.

smile

I'm not a mind-reader . . . the Jedi Mind Trick only works on the weak-minded! I can guessed by the tone and content of your posts that you feel some sympathy for the alleged victim, and don't like the knee-jerk reaction that Kobe is being set up. All of which are perfectly legit.

I could be wrong, and it wouldn't be the 1st time, but that ain't no reason to get mad. I'm not. I like you, and think I understand you better now.

May The Force Be With You.
