I have had gifts from my family appraised though. I say don't feel bad about it, if you wanna know what it's worth, who is it gonna hurt?

Take it to someone who specializes in jewelry appraisals though, because it has been my experience that some jewelers will give you a marked down price if it was not purchased at their store.
