Well, I went ahead and got my nipples pierced. (One of them was actually a re-pierce--I'd had it done in 1995 and removed it in 1997.) Here's a picture for your enjoyment (or disgust):

People are always asking me when I'll get something pierced or tattooed, but I've decided that it's more counter-cultural to have an unpierced, tattoo-less bod.

Funny, I can endure pain easily enough, and I've had 2 tattoos done years ago so I'm not opposed to that kinda stuff, but the idea of piercing just freaks me out a bit. Even earrings. I guess I'm worried that if you tug the piercing in question you'll lose an ear or a nipple or something.

BTW did you shave your chest just for that photo, just for the Org? Aww!

Well, we went to Metamorphosis, and I told the friendly lady behind the counter that I was interested in having my nipples pierced. She checked my ID, had me fill out some paperwork (basically disclaimers of liability), and helped me select the jewelry. After about a 30-minute wait, it was my turn to go back to the piercing room.

Once in the piercing room, I stripped to the waist and the piercer explained what he was going to do. After a close look at my nipples (especially the one that had previously been pierced), he used a toothpick dipped in ink to mark where the needles would go.

He then asked me which one I wanted to have done first. He said that the previously-pierced nipple would probably hurt more, so I decided to save that one for last.

I then laid down on a table that resembled a doctor's examining table. [Side note: When I first had a nipple piercing back in 1995, they had me sit upright in a chair. I think this piercing is much easier for the piercee is he/she is lying down.] He applied surgical forceps to my nipple and had me do some deep breathing. He pushed the needle through while I exhaled. It hurt, but I didn't move or say anything. He then followed the needle through the with ring.

After this I sat up, admired my new ring in the mirror, and accepted the cup of water that he offered me. We waited for a few minutes, and then we did the next nipple in the same manner. It hurt somewhat more, and I think I grunted a bit at the pain.

Afterwards I got dressed, talked with the piercer about aftercare instructions, and paid. The total cost was about $68, and I tipped the piercer an additional $10.

The aftercare process basically involves cleaning the piercings twice daily with antibacterial soap (not Dial--they've now found something else that's better for piercings) and once-daily soaks in warm sea salt water. They sent me home with a bottle of the soap and a bag of sea salt.

They told me that my piercings will probably take three to six months to heal. We shall see...

I almost got a tattoo during the Celebration this year, but chickened out.

I'm really not into the pain thing, but the nipple piercings are "dead sexy."

My significant other has pierced nipples and he looks megafine with them. Plus it makes his nipples more sensitive to the touch. I was thinking about getting mine done, but I have big nipples and I'm afraid it would hurt too much. Ouch! Looking good there Matt. Looking good.
