I took Martial Arts for about ten years. If you're looking for techniques to KILL someone, well just buy a gun or join the military! Martial arts was not intended to kill, but defend, and is an excellent form of discipline as well. There are so many forms, I would choose the one that suits you and your needs. Though working with the weapons is fun..I'll have to admit! Good luck! Go get 'em,

When I was a kid I studied Kenpo karate (which was the first martial arts system brought to America. It's also the system Elvis studied). I became a blue belt. No form of martial art is superior to another; they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Tae Kwon Do, however, has a lot of gaps. My instructor--a 5th degree black belt in Kenpo and a red belt in Tae Kwon Do--disliked T.K.D because he said the techniques always left you open for attack. I don't know what he means, but seeing as he had high belts in BOTH systems, he musta known what he was talking about.
Oh, and Jeet Kune Do (Bruce Lee's system) is overrated. I was at a tournament in 1988 and ALL of the students from the Jeet Kune Do school got their asses KICKED! | |

I studied Kempo, my cousin loves Jujitsu and keeps trying to get me to learn it. Supposedly the best fighting techniques are in that form of fighting.

I would suggest Muay Thai and Krav Maga. If you learn those, you'll have enough to do damage. Then maybe get into jiu jitsu and silat, with a touch of kali. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "

Which can make me become the ultimate bad-ass without going to Japan and becoming bhuddist? your married ///:O honey buy a gun... fuck martial arts... Being a student of martial arts for seven years, I'm in complete agreement with Dora. If that's your main concern, it's easier to get a gun. Most people new to the martial arts have this perception that studying a martial art automatically makes them a bad ass. Studying a MA doesn't mean that you're not going to win every fight or that you're not going to get hit. You will. Having sparred full contact countless hours with and without protective gear, I can tell you that if you decide to fight, even if you have some degree of skill, chances are that you'll eventually get hit and believe me it hurts. This isn't even what I consider real fighting. Even the UFC or Pride fighting championships are only approximations to a real fight. Real fights are ugly, brutal affairs with no rules, no rounds, no referees, no time limits and multiple opponents and weapons may/not be involved. I don't want to dissuade you if you want to study a martial art but just want to give you a heads up about the reality of what happens if you decide to do so. Most people forget or are not aware that originally these MA systems were designed to either maim or kill your opponent. A lot of that is lost nowadays because most instructors are looking to make money and realize that most people are going to be turned off by that so they water down the art for the general public. If you are not resolved to take your training to that level of intensity or realize that you can be seriously hurt or killed if you fight, just get a gun. Even Bruce Lee said (and I'm paraphrasing here)that martial arts can compete with somebody with a gun. [This message was edited Fri Jun 20 6:26:35 PDT 2003 by NovaAngel] "I ordered no broth! By the way my foundation in MA is Jow Ga Kung Fu, a southern Chinese Martial Art. My instructor allows us to research other systems as well so when we spar we experiment with Muay Thai, Filipino martial arts techniques, Western Boxing in addition to the Jow Ga Kung Fu techniques.
I'm currently training for the national competition coming up in five weeks. I'll be doing forms and fighting. We have to do a MINIMUM of forty rounds per week plus weight training, forms and weapons training, road work and other conditiong drills. Wish me luck. Original Jiu Jitsu began in Japan, then the Brazilians developed Brazilian Jiu Jitsu which is more of a ground fighting art. "You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." "
