A 13-year-old Caucasian girl was brutally attacked by a mob of black and Hispanic teen-agers in what appears to be a racially motivated "hate crime" committed in honor of "Beat Up a White Kid Day," reports the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Authorities say 12 girls and six boys, aged 9 through 15, beat, kicked and choked the girl near Wilbur Wright Middle School in Cleveland, Ohio, in observance of a May Day ritual among the teens.

The Plain Dealer reports police were tipped off that a racial incident might happen and arrived on the scene as the crime was taking place.

Delinquency charges of felonious assault, ethnic intimidation and aggravated riot were filed against the 18 in Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court late last week.

If convicted, the teens face a minimum of one year in a juvenile facility.

Carmen Naso, supervisor of the juvenile justice unit of the county prosecutor's office, told the paper that evidence indicates the victim was attacked because of her race.

According to Naso, the victim remains under medical care and suffers blackouts as a result of the attack.

Five of the assailants attend the middle school with the victim and received 10-day suspensions.

This holiday is hilarious! Who celebrates this kind of thing?

Actually, I don't really know if I should start laughing or feel sad. The holiday is too silly to take feelings into conideration.

Right... there should be some moral outrage over this... it should make national news and there should be a lot of marching in the streets and political grandstanding over this... but it won't happen.

Why will there be no public outcry about this?

Mainly because it's happened before, and that it's one kid that is in no way apart of any one elses life. That usually is enough to make people not care, and completely ignore it.

If I was the father of that girl (the victim) I'm be taking matters into my own hands, and "discussing" the matter with each of the brats responsible and their parents too. One at a time.

They should be prosecuted under hate crime laws.

White people get on beat Day

Mexican with a valid SSN Day

Chinese Driver Awareness Day

Pakistani Store Owner Day

I think most of us would agree how horrible it is when abuse occurs -- especially when the motivating factor appears to be race, gender, religion, orientation, or some such distinguishing factor.

This sort of thing should be publically condemned by all people. I wish Jesse Jackson would hold a town hall meeting and talk about how crimes such as this one do nothing to reverse the evils of the past, only perpetuate them. Maybe he or reps from the NAACP will do that. Does anyone know if they have?
