Thankyou all very much for your answers. I've written them down on an index card and will search for which is truly better for me and my friends.

Look for a good Jeet Kune Do school also. You'll learn a lot of stuff.

I took judo. I didn't really like it due to the amount of floor work involved. However, it's somewhat practical considering that more than 1/2 the fights end up on the floor.

What most schools teach as JKD nowadays is a joke.Very few of Bruce's students knew what he was talking about and a lot have been riding on the name JKD for a long time. Most of what is being taught as JKD today is wht Bruce was against:it's become formal and stylized.
With the exception of Joe Lewis,Dan Inosanto and Paul Vunak there 's hardly anyone out there qualified to teach JKD.JKD is a PROCESS not a system. What people don't understand is that you have to find a base in martial arts,be it wing chun or jiu jitsu, and then go out (and thru trial and error) find YOUR OWN TRUTH-the common denominator of all combative arts. From there you can add what is uniquely your own and be able to fully express yourself as a fighter.JKD is about daily DECREASE,not increase. In fact ,a true JKD man doesn't even refer to himself as one. That defeats the whole purpose of it.
If you wanna see a perfect exmple of a JKD man today look no further than Tommy Carruthers.

I need help here.
After being given the names of the different types of martial arts, I tried to go on the internet and look for information. But to the sites I have visited for different types, none have been useful. So can anyone tell me exactly what I should look for when I go through these websites! The history? techniques? I mean...I am sooo lost. It's all GENERAL information.

Dan Inosanto comes to my JKD school once or twice a year to give seminars. That man is no joke, he handles his business.
