Question For iPod Owners

Does anyone here have the new iPod? Not the original (or even the larger capacity originals) but the newly-redesigned, touch-sensitive one?

I'd like to hear some feedback from you guys, about quality of the iPod itself and also your sound quality importing AAC music from iTunes.

Reason: I am thinking about buying an iPod again (the first one broke, I returned it an didn't get another) and now that they've been redesigned, I think it's time. Actually, I am thinking about getting two, one for a gift.

Any feeback is appreciated!

just to clarify, but i believe they've always been touch sensitive.

i haven't read much about the new ones... i hope they've made it so you can replace the battery once it runs out.

here's a site where you may find some answers...

I have a new 15 gig...the quality is outstanding. I truly believe that no one will be able to touch this thing with a 10 foot pole for some time. I mean, you can literally have a good part of your CD collection on this thing. I don't even remember how many I have on my Powerbook righ now, but they all fit on the iPod. Definitely over 300 CD's. Sound wise? I use the AAC format; 160 kbps. I truly find that the sound quality is excellent. I have made many a playlist for parties, connected it to whatever system was available, and dared someone to tell me that they could tell which was CD and which was iPod. They couldn't.
Bottom line-these things are the shit. People trip...always, when they see how much music is on it and how great it sounds. And, the new ones are hella small...I took my 10 gig in to compare it to the 15 and 30 gigs...they're both smaller! Thinner, lighter, etc.
If you're planning on getting one, go ahead and do it, fo sho.

Pochacco

They come in two flavors,

One for Mac which uses firewire

I believe for the windows version you have to have USB 2.0

All the reviews of the new version i-pod have been very favorable

Much love yes Pochacco

I have an "old" one for my PC and that uses a firewire. Have they changed that? hmm

Suomynona,

The first edition had a moving wheel, and the revised first edition had a touch sensitive wheel but real "press" buttons . . .

The new one doesn't have real "press" buttons (they're sorta heat-activated now).

I don't think that the battery is replaceable, but I'm not sure neutral

Thanks for the info!

Lemme ask you this: when you're starting up the iPod, or when you're clicking "fast-forward" through tracks, does your iPod sorta give a little "Whirring" sound? I remember the first iPods did that, and it was really annoying, especially the little "click, click" as the harddrive arm returned to its home position.

But I agree, nobody's gonna touch this thing for a LONG time! It's the smartest, easiest to use MP3 player, IMO . .

And Nate, the new iPods are for both Windows and Mac, and there's a version of iTunes coming out for the PC later this year.

There is a "whirring" sound, but you damn near have to put the unit up to your ear to hear it. After all, it is a hard drive. So I would expect that it make some noise. But if you're listening to music, or more than 1mm away from the iPod, you won't hear a thing. If this was a problem with the 1st generation iPods, it has been rectified. The only problem I see is the battery life; Belkin is selling an external batter pack that runs on 4 AA batteries, and will run on those for 15-20 hours. I think I'm gonna get one considering the fact that replacing the internal battery yourself voids the warranty, and I hear that sending it in to be replaced costs around $200. But check out www.ipodlounge.com for the most up-to-date info.
