At least cote d'or is chocolate. I'm not sure how world-famous the brand Milka is, but that's just plain nasty...

When I first went to the US I was pretty surprised that you almost didn´t have any "regular" chocolate bars. Here in Europe almost every country has its own "national chocolate bar" that is just pure chocolate without "extras". In Sweden we have Marabou, in Norway it´s Freja, in the UK it´s Cadbury´s, in Germany it´s Milka etc, etc. No nuts or fudge or raisins or any other crap. Just plain chocolate (we have the other stuff as well of course, but that´s a whole other category). In the US all I could find in that department was a pretty sad looking Nestle bar.

Somehow I get the impression that you Americans aren´t as much into candy as we are? You seem to prefer chips, popcorn, cookies and that kind of stuff? Have you had similar thoughts when you´ve been to Europe? Are we as candy crazy as we feel?

Huh? We got Cadbury's in America. woot! It's good.

As far as non-bar-shaped chocolate goes, my all-time fave candy is in fact the Cadbury egg (not the caramel, but the one with white stuff in it and orange in the very middle.)

drool Mmmm...

  • Chocolate contains carbohydrates. Eating food high in carbohydrates but low in protein can boost the level of serotonin in the brain. Serotonin is thought to be in short supply in the brains of depressed people. However, some scientists believe that the protein content of chocolate may prevent it from boosting serotonin.

  • Chocolate contains small amounts of various drugs that might affect mood, including phenylethylamine (which affects the level of certain chemical messengers in the brain), caffeine and theobromine (which are stimulants), and other drugs which affect the brain in a similar way to cannabis. However, the dose of these drugs in chocolate is fairly low.

  • The pleasant taste and texture of chocolate is believed to bring about the release of endorphins. Endorphins are chemicals in the brain which act like opiates to increase pleasure and reduce pain.

Mmmm... Fazer... drool drooling
