Top 25 Books

Forgive me, I'm bored. Having just replied to Moonbeam's
thread about films I felt inspired to make myself a list
of the 25 books I most enjoyed for one reason or another.

What would be, looking back on what you've read so far,
your 25 fav books?

01. M.A. Bulgakov - The Master & Margarita
02. Emily Brontë - Wurthering Heights
03. Louis F. Céline - Voyage au bout de la Nuit
04. Salman Rushdie - The Moor's Last Sigh
05. Fjodor Dostoyevski - The Brothers Karamazov
06. Umberto Eco - The Island of the day Before
07. Jane Austen - Pride & Prejudice
08. Franz Kafka - The Trial
09. W. Shakespeare - MacBeth
10. Samuel Beckett - Waiting for Godot
11. Thomas Mann - The Magic Mountain
12. Jack Kerouac - On The Road
13. Orhan Pamuk - My Name Is Red
14. Helmut Krausser - Melodies
15. Joseph Conrad - Nostromo
16. Salman Rushdie - The Satanic Verses
17. Vladimir Nabokov - Pnin
18. Sylvia Plath - The Bell Jar
19. Charles Dickens - Bleak House
20. Ernest Hemingway - The Sun Also Rises
21. E.M. Forster - A Room with a View

Tolstoj - war and peace
Nietzche - Zarathoustra
Marquez - Love in times of cholera
Gunter Grass - Das Blechtrommel
"It's better 2 B hated 4 what U R than 2 B loved 4 what U R not."

I haven't read that one yet, but I think I forgot about his
"One Hundred Years Of Solitude" for a minute there, when I
compiled my top 25. It should have been in there lol. It's
a great book. Altho all the Arcadio Buendia's who lived in
succession in Macondo were a bit hard to seperate from one
another in the end.

I also enjoyed reading "Chronicle of a death Foretold" very
much.

I'm not very sleepy after that. Can we do something else now? biggrin

Afterwards I'll get of your thread and make a half decent attempt at a list of books.

Me too i read "One Hundred Years Of Solitude", and while it's probable the 'greater' book, i preferred Love in Times of Cholera. Dunno y, mayb the many Arcadio Buendia's got to me in the end wink

Nice list. I see you particularly like Anne Rice and
Isabel Allende.

I've only read "House of the Spirits" by Allende but
I thought it was a very wellwritten book and a great
story. And for once, the film was good too smile

A number of years ago I had an infatuation for the
Anne Rice books. I haven't read too many but I the
"Interview with the Vampire" & "Servant of the Bones"
were two of my favorits. The story about the violin
was another very nice one but I can't remember the
name right now.

MM right, house of Spirits was the first book I read of hers. It was so beautiful, the way she describes things. I fell in love with Chile just bcause of reading about it.
Anne Rice is great, I'm finished off Blood and Gold at the moment. The movies weren't so good, at least I don't think the actors fitted in to the parts. sad
Oh well, let's hope there will be more with better actors.

I see your list is very interesting too. Many different writers... smile
Thanx for this thread, it's great biggrin

Yeah, I remember back when they filmed "Interview", Anne
Rice got into quite a state over the choice of Tom Cruise
for Lestat. I could see why, since he looked nothing like
Lestat as he was described in the book.
