I was bad, and hangin out with some folks on the wrong side of the tracks... drugs, and a few other reasons... tatoos, yeah I got tats on my back and both arms... don't regret them at all... I do have a friend who had inked up both sleeves last summer but his parents freaked and he ended up getting them removed ... Pej I'm with you on that minneapolisgenius. Maybe I'm a bit hypocritcal here..but I like tattoos on men..especially ones that have been locked up . But not on women. Unless it's small, hidden and very feminine. Does that make me a bad person? Well Chico, since we've been friends for over 10 years, I think I better throw my 2 cents in.
1. a treble clef on my arm cheesy 2. my last name in old english..maybe on my shoulder common 3. a single initial on the back of my neck hmmm 4. praying hands with roses and the rosary hanging. this is you 5. a merman or a mermaid...a small one my hip. I like this idea. I think it would be sexy. I'm thinking top of the thigh, starting at the bikini line and about 5 inches long. Don't know why, but I'd like to see that. As far to the side as possible but still facing front, so it isn't uh, eclipsed.

Your work sounds stressful...Nonetheless, I wonder how many tatts the president of your "major bank" wears. Meanwhile, I'm trying to imagine your "billy idol hair" and other bodily adornments. Bottom line, in my business, you'd be a laughing stock. Sorry, just tellin' it like it is. "When they tell me 2 walk a straight line, I put on crooked shoes"

Chico ~
People have given a lot of great ideas here. Be very sure that your tattoo reflects you in the most intimate sense ~ it will become a part of you for a long time. The design should evolve with you ~ that is, not a passing idea that is intriguing to you now, but something that will have emotional, personal, spiritual etc. meaning across time. I waited a long time to have my first one ~ gave it to myself as a 50th birthday present! Look at as many tattoos as you can (check out Bjork's and Ani diFranco's) ~ stop by studios where they have hundreds of ideas in books and on the walls. There are tons of magazines out now that have the most amazing tattoos. Almost any picture you like from any source could be made into a tattoo (wouldn't VINABLUE"S avatar make a beautiful one?) A good artist can help you develpo a truly unique and personalized work. Stopping by shops will also give you a sense of the "vibe" of the studio and the artists and you will intuitively know which is the right place to go. They should use a fresh, new needle and wear gloves ~ years of expeience is important. If you are out and see someone with great looking tattoos ~ ASK them who did the work. People usually love to talk about their tattoos. You may start to hear the same names coming up over and again. My artist placed a pattern on my skin and let me wear it for a couple days before I decided whether I liked the spot. OH~ stay away from those new glowy colors. Many of them contain chemicals that could cause severe reactions or cancer. I think you will absolutely love the whole experience ~ there is even something eerily comforting and very primal about the process ~ truly can be addicting!!! Good luck!!!

I get mine (now four of them) from a true artist who has been at it since the late 60's ~ Gene in Port Huron, Michigan at Personal Image. He's great and is the most gentle, intelligent guy. He does wonderful freehand work but you have to have courage for that! One of mine is freehand (no pattern applied first) and more will be the same. If you're ever in my area I would be happy to introduce you to him!!!

u must have never set foot inside of a tattoo parlor, sir. i assure u you'd see work that would blow yo ass away. Whew, I'm so relieved to know that I no longer have to travel to art galleries to have that experience. It's as close as the nearest tattoo parlor. Very cool! y'damn right. u can't always depend on, say, monet and picasso 4 rides. sometimes the best art can be found outside art galleries and such. step out of that stuffy ol' art center 4 a bit and look around. hell, tattoo art has been on exhibit in art galleries as it is...i thought ya knew.

It's Ganesh, but Chico really isn't into hindu mythology like I am. The Rosary I can totally see on him and he's been into mermaids forever. I scanned the pic and photoshoped it with the glowing edge filter. I love that pic. It's really nice full size, Want me to email it to you?

Chico319 said: I have been contimplating getting a tattoo. For those of you with tattoos..what advice would you give? I hear some people regret it. Or once you get one you'll want another. Make sure the place is liscensed and uses clean needles, tattoo colour fading, price..etc. There are a couple ideas I have for a tattoo and where on my body to put it. But I would like your opinions or experiences good or bad on tattoos.
A couple ideas are.. 1. a treble clef on my arm 2. my last name in old english..maybe on my shoulder 3. a single initial on the back of my neck 4. praying hands with roses and the rosary hanging. 5. a merman or a mermaid...a small one my hip. I was thinking about a revised version of my profile pic.(look for yourselves ) Just the Merman and Mermaid. But I'm sure that would be costly and it would take up a lot of skin area! Thanks in advance, for your advice! As in anything in life...if it's what you "seek" and wish to try...go get it! You will not want to be in the position of "What If?"...that's what my mom always told me...give it a try. I have three...I already have plans for two more! What you also need to do in choosing is make sure it is something that is not just a novelty...but something that encompasses all that you are and takes stock in your world and way of life. The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them. -- Mark Twain.

Thanks DEX. I like all the things I meantioned above; and thought about how I could put all of them into one image. Without it being too much. Maybe someone could draw something for me. I do want it to be something of significance. Maybe a symbol for my zodiac sign, Pisces?
Thanks DEX! [This message was edited Thu Jun 12 20:54:39 PDT 2003 by Chico319]
