I always loved the X-B[]X launch advert - but it promtly got banned after a ridiculous 20 (TWENTY!!!) complaints.
I thought it was amazing.

Article here (with a download link - although whether or not it stil works is another matter)

If the link doesnt work 4 the download, u CAN get it from the amazing: www.playmore.com
U will need 2 access the 'movies' section, then find the commercial entitled: Champagne'

I thought the Iron brew add reminded me of something (I thought it was that Queen of the desert film). The X-box add was art. They could of put that in the tate.

I remember that one. It got banned?! Why? That's just as bad as in the U.S. disbelief

That's just stupid. There was nothing offensive or explicit in it.

X-Box ad

A controversial ad for the Microsoft X-Box, which shows a man crash-landing into a grave, has been banned after 136 viewers complained to the television watchdog.

The independent television commission ordered Microsoft to pull the campaign after receiving complaints claiming it was shocking and offensive.

The ad, by Bartle Bogle Hegarty, starts with a baby boy being shot through a window by the force of his birth. He ages rapidly as he travels through the air, screaming, and finally crashes into his own grave as an old man.

A pregnant woman, a new mother and 20 recently bereaved viewers said they had found the ad offensive.

One viewer, who had lost a child during childbirth, said she had found it to be an upsetting reminder of her own experience.

Microsoft claimed the endline to the ad, "Life is short. Play more", was a "positive statement about life".

But the ITC disagreed, saying: "The man's screams throughout his life's journey suggested a traumatic experience, which, together with the reminder that life is short, made the final scene more shocking."

The ITC also issued a rare warning to the Broadcast Advertising Clearance Centre, which approves ads before they are screened on TV.

The ITC asked the BACC to be more sensitive to issues relating to death because viewers could not avoid ads in the same way they could switch off programmes.

"The ITC also reminded the BACC of the need to be more sensitive about references to death in advertisements... the final scene of a body smashing into its grave was unnecessary and caused considerable distress to many viewers," the watchdog said.

Microsoft said it would continue screening the commercial, called "Champagne", in cinemas and on the internet, which are not governed by the ITC.

The dramatic advertisement is an attempt by Microsoft to grab viewers' attention in the fiercely fought battle against Sony's PlayStation 2 and Nintendo's GameCube.

Millions of pounds are being spent on marketing the consoles. Microsoft recently slashed £100 off the price of the X-Box in the UK in an attempt to lure players to its product.

By all accounts, after further reading, the ITC recieved 137 complaints about the ad. Still - fuck em I say! lol

Hell yeah. I mean sorry if your recently berived, but what if someone you know has been murdered and then you see a murder on a program like 24 (just an example) or Eastenders or something. Because it's upsetting means we all have to ignor it. Get out of here! The X-box add is very clever, tastefully done, brilliently made, and justifies it's slogan.

...Bru...

Barrs (makers of Irn Bru) ran a series of poster ads a few years back. One very similar to the TV ad, was a young baby about to be breast fed. The line ran "Great! Mum's been on the Irn Bru again". Complaints flooded in. Is there not more important things in the world to worry about?

Barrs have always had memorable adverts, I can remember them going back years.

Apparently, Scotland is one of the few places in the world where Coke is not the #1 selling soft drink.

I need to finish this now, I feel a tear welling up. It's a god damned institution I tell you!

Irn-Bru isn't distributed here in the United States... but many years ago, I bought a can from a store in Maine that imported British goods. I can't remember... what does it taste like?

I thought it was a cool advert, shame it got removed.

The Irnbru ad is very funny biggrin

Oh to answer Matt's question... Irnbru is ... chemical flavour smile It's a staple of every Glaswegian's diet, and as well as being the sugariest fizziest drink ever, apparently has miracle abilities to cure hangovers and cut through a greasy kebab after a night on the beers.

All I know is that I'm very afraid of it. It tastes like nothing in nature.
