I'm not entirely *** of that. There are times when censorship is *** and if there's no ***, then there would be *** which in turn, can lead to ***

Just my two *** worth.

i'm sorry, maybe i should explain myself "a little mo' bettah". it bothers me when i see four or five locked topics on one page at a site that is centered around an artist who has fought the recording industry for limiting and censoring his work. ok, so some of the material may be pointless, instigative, brainless or insulting...so what. we are all adults (or at least by the rules of the org we should be) and can simply choose to ignore something that is offensive. to have moderators decide what we can and can't handle is insulting, imho. i respect the fact that someone must provide order here but sometimes it seems rather one sided. there are certain people who always post in order to create a "debate" or argument and they never get locked, but then there are others who do...i don't get the politics involved. oh well. just wanted to voice my opinion.

Actually, Prince has said in the past that he was in favor of the PMRC and he's been no stranger to releasing edited versions of his albums released...and we ALL know where he stands on censoring his material these days.

Not saying censorship doesn't suck, just saying that ya can't really play the Prince card, or at least not easily.

It's not about what you can and cannot handle (I agree with you - we are all adults and can decide for ourselves what we want to read) but it is about what sort of content we want to permit on our website.

Nothing wrong with creating a debate, that is what discussion forums are all about.

If you have questions about a specific act of censorship on our site, please feel free to Orgnote me privately (as per the site rules) and I'll be happy to discuss it with you.

This site is censored, and it is moderated, and it will continue to be. We aren't obliged to publish everything that everyone here wants to say, of course.

Censorship does suck, but it can be a necessary evil. I think in general we are quite tolerant in the GD forum of most stuff (some accuse us of being too tolerant) but we must exercise our own judgement in enforcing the site rules, obviously, and from time to time this will result in moderation decisions that you disagree with. Oh well. Someone has to make the call etc.

yes, current prince is all for censorship (rather, self censorship) but the majority of his career has been spent pushing limits and breaking rules, not censoring himself.

There are four locked threads on the front page of the GD forum.

1. Thread about shitting your pants
2. Thread about a guy ejaculating in someone's ass and then drinking it afterwards

I felt these threads were not attempting to actually create discussion, but merely they were deliberately provocative and disgusting. I felt they were just puerile attempts at grossing people out, and I think they bring down the tone of the site, so I locked them. As per our site rules:

Yes, you can talk about sex, but try not to be vulgar or obscene.

3. Thread bitching about moderation decision

This thread was locked for obvious reasons. Our rules state:

If you don't agree with a decision, you may discuss it with the moderator who made the judgement in private

4. Thread created to flame a user (HerRoyalBadness)

Removed for obvious reasons.

biggrin In fairness though, we rarely enforce it, and we are quite accomodating with sexually-themed threads in the forums.
