I DON'T WANNA BE A STAR

I haven't had a chance to read the GD threads too often lately and almost feel like I've been away. A lesser mortal would have announced his departure and basked in the supplications of people begging him to reconsider, but I don't need that. I don't need to be "popular" and to prostitute my threads to attain ultimate Org fame. Not me, sir.

I don't need to be a star . I've been a star before and know how the pressures of celebrity can insidiously overtake your life. Yes, the attention is nice, but it makes you soft. The free cybersex is admittedly addictive, but you know it's basically AM, or Assisted Masturbation. The fans can also be demanding. Soon you feel like you should be a role model. I'd rather role-play with a Colt model, ok?

So leave me alone. I shall be contented with groupie-free anonymity, thankuverymuch.

(I Never Wanted) To Be A Star

Cat Stevens

I was seventeen, you were working for
Matthew and Son,
The Beatles met the Queen, and I wrote
I'm gonna get me a gun, yeah, yeah
It was like a dream in the star machine,
oh, no, izitso, izitso?
I never wanted to be a star, I never wanted
to travel far
I only wanted a little bit of love
So I could put a little love in my heart
I never wanted to be la-de-da, go to parties
'avec le bourgeois'
I only wanted to sing my song well,
So I could ring a small bell in your heart
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

I was on the road, sleeping between lorry
lights, oh no
Stone-drunk and cold, heading into a bad
night, yeah, yeah
Just another bean in the star machine, hi ho,
here I go, here I go

I never wanted to be a star buy my mum a
Ferrari car
I only wanted to run my own race,
So I could win a small place in your heart
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Nature found a way, it picked me up off the
dark side, yeah, yeah
Showed me another day, it made me sing
'I think I see the light'
Not another bean in the star machine, oh no,
this time I won't go
I never wanted to be a star, I never wanted to travel far
I only wanted a little bit of love
So I could put a little love in my heart

Baby I'm no star

Hey, looked me over
Tell u I don't like what I see!
Hey, I don't like a phoney
And honey, I'm sick of personalities
Hey, chuck it all out
Baby, u don't know what it's all about
Before the night is through
U won't care for my point of view
Even if I have 2 scream and shout

Oh baby, I'm no star!
Might not know it now
Baby, but I ain't, I'm no star!
I don't want 2 suck till I reach the top
Sing it! (We are no stars!)

There was once a divo who had reached the top in a blaze of sycophany. He was the King, or at least a Prince. Publicly, he basked in his notoriety, acting as if it was life to die for.

Privately, things were quite different. Celebrity might look like fun, but it's hard work. You always have to find a way to stay on top. That meant lotsa networking, Iming and ornoting, on top of all the incessant posting. Soon, our Star was spending 16 hours a day just staying where he was.

At first, he deluded himself that the perks were orth it. Free boots, plenty of cybersex, kudos galore, a hit thread every day. Pretty fast, it was necessary to cut on sleep just to have three nutritious meals a day and pretend to work a little.

Steadily, his treads started to suffer, to the point where he found it necessary to create not one, but two extra accounts to make it look like someone was wildly interested. He called that "kick starting the thread".

One day, after too little sleep, he logged on under the wrong acoount, which was a female personality, a man hungry socialite. He created a thread about his favorite Playboy centerfolds, not using any gender-identifying pronouns. The Org male constituancy cheered at this apparent display of lesbianism, and our divo found himself also becoming a diva.

Unwilling to give up the celebrity of either identities, he pushed himself to the point of exhaustion, becoming cranky and quite anti-social at times. He was caught flaming and got banned.

No longer able to post on the Org, our poor slob went absolutely mad. He's now "resting" in some institution, heavily sedated.

Very sad!
